is this using ultrasonic data or audible spectrum? I can imagine high frequency can get very annoying like chirp

It uses ultrasonic audio that is inaudible to fans but still detectable by their smartphone mics.

@@connectwithCUE VERY COOL, may I ask as an engineering student studying dsp for my thesis project, how are you handling such a large distance propagation ? What kind of modem scheme do you propose?

I'm sure it seems fascinating and trying to draw in crowds...but this is wrong for the house of the Lord. This is bringing worldly things into what is supposed to be kept holy. Worship is not supposed to entertain people, it is meant to worship God. This is man made doctrine. I saw nothing that praised God. Worship that looks fun or entertaining is work of a false church.

Great idea! I'm curious as to why some of the smartphones didn't seem to "turn off" between the flashes while others did?

Phero I imagine, since the information comes from sound - there is a high potential for the signal to become polluted with other sounds, and the app also depends upon the quality of the microphone. Some phones may detect sounds while others may not? There may be external sounds that some phones pick up? just some suggestions
