I have one of those in my closet somewhere amongst the gear I've accumulated. Still in it's soft-shell bag inside it's original Manfrotto box. I'm pretty sure I "replaced it" with a Steadicam Merlin so people would stop approaching me (while I was shooting) to ask why I was using a steering wheel with my camera rig. 😅

Hey John, Congrats. I don't know how you do it. I've been submitting to P5, SS, and Adobe since 2020. Before that it was exclusively BB. Pond5 is my weakest seller by far. Adobe wins everything for me. SS comes in second. BB comes in third place. I haven't submitted to BB since 2020 and their numbers have been falling every year.

These are beautiful shots. I’m still amazed by ProRes footage. Quick question if you don’t mind. What’re your thoughts on SoraAI, and potential disruptions to those of us who shoot stock footage?
@craftedshutter
@craftedshutter 2 ай бұрын
Great question! It is so early to tell just exactly how much stock video will be affected but I can guarantee it will be! The path forward could be an interesting one with editorial leading the way more in stock then commercial, that is one reason why I am focusing on my phone as well. As long as the agencies keep pricing the same then I think we might survive but will have to be more creative and keep our eyes open. I would like to see a higher value and price point for non Ai content. Will keep you updated as things unfold.

Feels weird to have shot this in a way where the seam between the AI gen and regular office is so visible. I'm saying it feels weird because personally I'd never upload something with such a glaring mistake, as it would present me in a bad light. It screams low effort, and even if it's "just a youtube video", one is left to wonder - if _this_ is good enough for him, if he can tolerate this obviously being low effort, who's to say he won't be the same in a potential business venture, also showing low criteria and doing the minimal effort. Nothing personal, just my 2c, I could never hire someone if I came across a video of theirs, and it looked like this, regardless of its intent (professional or personal).
@craftedshutter
@craftedshutter 9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the advice, and yes I am testing in order to put in more effort not less as I have a very basic office, you might just have the seem wrong but you are certainly entitled to your opinion! I actually work in the field and not just talk about or just make video's on making videos. I think you hit on a good point and that is more effort, I can improve on that and that is critical to success. I sometimes get tired as a one man band after 12 years in this business so more effort is a good point. I hope you stick around and offer advice anytime. Now not that you are being rude I just feel you are being honest but in the real world if you treat people well do the best you can and keep treating people well plus deliver your product on time and treat them well again you will always have good business. If you treat people poor in this business but have a good product you will soon be out of work!

Hi John, happy to see you back. Just a quick question, what lenses do you use the most with your Sony camera for video production? Thanks
@craftedshutter
@craftedshutter 9 ай бұрын
Great question, I just all primes at this point, 85mm 1.8, 35mm 1.8. 50mm 1.8. 28mm 2.0 and a 14mm for real estate. The reason I used these are a big advantage I have with the Sony A7 III and iV you can use crop mode for an extra 1.5 and on top of that clear image zoom for another 1.5 reach so times all those primes by 3 and I have a 35 to 78 1.8 zoom lens on my camera!!! With ZERO quality loss. This has been a hug deal and money savor for me and one of the main reasons I still with Sony.

Fantastic to see you back John with an excellent update. Your updates use to inspire me when I had small ports back a few years ago. Manage to grow them to over 2100 clips on Shutter, 2250 on Pond5, and over 1500 on iStock and near 1800 on Adobe. I focus on video as it generally pays much better. Thanks for this update, really great to see the results and positivity, especially with so much doom and gloom commentary around on MS forums. (Y)

To be honest with you i don't think it changed overnight. It has been changing for some time now because I am using some AI tools you mention and others since 2018... The first time i saw it was in 2015 with a site peoplethatdontexist. The interest thing is no one really care before last November 2022....suddenly it seems to me that big part the art world wake up for this now. Of course there will be a lot of changes but i love how it pushes my work and performance for Art and animation concepts. It was announce for this year some breakthroughs for 3d characters design and animations features. i am anxious to see it because this will really help for a huge time and render consuming for me. I am one of those who makes microstock but i can see future for me with AI tools. Hope you too. Best regards!

I've been experiementing for a few months now. Interesting times we live in. I'm sure video ai adoption will advance as quickly as imagery. I'm also a one man band and it's helped me out with graphics that I can use in animations (video) and bg images for templates. It's helping me ATM but who knows about the future. All we can do is learn the skills and adapt with it as there is no putting this back in the can.

I'd like to hear about the legality of producing AI images and videos and who owns the ability to sell such AI-created works. In order for the AI to generate an image of something, say, a city or building, or even a person or celebrity, it needs REFERENCE material to do that. The AI just doesn't know what the Golden Gate Bridge looks like, it has to get a reference, and it gets this reference material from images it finds on the web. And those reference media ARE owned by someone. Does that make it a legal headache? Are the images it creates different enough from the reference material to avoid copyright infringement? I think the lawyers are still working thru all this.
