I was training in TKD at this time. When I went to see this championship I was a red belt. TKD began to get exciting when the TAGB got involved with Hee Il Cho. Went to a few of his seminars and trained regularly with Ray Dennis in his bruising Saturday fighting sessions. My Instructor was Buphinder Sahota in Bedford - we all came out of the UKTA (with Gary Carmalt). TKD got too political though and I became cynical about the infighting. It was at this point that the TAGB were looking to begin doing more full contact, but it didn't really happen and I gravitated over to kickboxing (where Gary Carmalt was now running a gym) and Muay Thai - but as a grounding in martial arts for kicks, flexibility and movements, TKD is worth doing, but perhaps it's still as introverted as it's always been? I don't know, stopped doing it in the early 90s.Occasionally I drop into KZfaq to see if there's been any major developments - and in some cases (Van Roon In New Zealand) there has - but in most, they're still bickering over sine wave and hip twist

Chainoy gave a masterclass in distance control. That teep was very effective and added to the final score. And the angling off was another great way to keep Dekkers at bay. He disrupted Dekkers continuously and sealed the deal with his elbows. Deserved win.

The problem is that always has a block first. With senior citizens the cane has to be first. That as a black belt teaching senior citizens

First fight, there was excellent technique/power in that reverse side kick that winded the England competitor through the body armour. Having competed in ITF/WTF and MT, myself, I know that WTF TKD is a total mess, the rules ruin WTF and have created an impractical fighting system/unimpressive spectacle. The South Koreans need to put politics aside, and unify TKD under ITF rules, then we would be off to the races. Back in the day, I took a GF to a WTF tournament, I told her we were going to see a martial arts tournament for people who had lost the use of the hands. She sat through it all, and never once commented that they seemed to be using their hands when not fighting. I asked her what she thought, she said they were great for handicapped people! and in a way, she was right, lol.

It would be nice to see characters based on some of Power Rangers actors in a fighting video game. Needless to mention that JDF would be one of the first (if not THE FIRST) to be imitated in such a game.
