I used to work summer seasons in Yellowstone National Park. During those years, I acquired a love for the MRL. My best catch of an MRL train was in July of 2005, on the way to the park to start my summer job. I don't remember what type of train it was or where I first saw it, but I got ahead of the train and pulled off of I-90 at Jens. There, I got some wonderful photos of the motive power, which included an F45 and an SD45. Last time I was in that area was in the summer of 2017, but I almost never saw an MRL train. They were almost always BNSF trains. A bit of a disappointment but considering that MRL trains were pretty thin on the ground in 2017, it is no surprise that MRL is about to be a fallen flag. At least there are plenty of really cool videos of the MRL. And, I have the photos I did manage to get during my trips to and from Yellowstone.

There wasn't a big difference of MRL-own traffic btw. 2005 and 2017. MRL always lived from BN- and BNSF-bridge traffic, so more BNSF trains meant better earnings for MRL. There are other reasons that led to the end if the leasing of the BNSF line from Laurel to Sandpoint ID by Washington Corp.

We need more of this type of service on both sides of the border, especially in this type of terrain. It would take pressure off local roads, add security to local travel by reducing auto accidents, have less impact on local environment by reducing environmental impact( putting roads through tuff terrain) & maybe cut pollution. The US in particular needs to expand its rail service.

Stimmt, den Geruch hatte ich ganz vergessen. Leckerer verbrannter Gummi. Habe eigentlich ein Video über die "Chiquita" (SBB RABDe 8/16) gesucht, um mich nachträglich über diese Katastrophe auszulassen, aber dieses Vergnügen ist mir nicht vergönnt - habe nichts gefunden.
