Just received this gadget, hope it works. I'll give it a try tonight, mosquitos in back garden are awful at moment. I'm wondering - has anyone taken this to the Scottish Highlands - is it effective against the dreaded midges?

@@garrypaton2763 just back from Indonesia where there are- amongst many other flying beasties- little midge type ones that bite viciously. Having been there on a number of occasions, I decided to bring the flex tail this time round and it definitely helped. I was getting bitten everyday from sundown to not getting nibbled at all with the unit on full crank and sitting within a metre of it,I find it works wonders, any breeze or wind though and it obviously won't work/be as affective but let me know how you get on with it.

@@WildCamper That's great to hear. I'm going to Bali, where obviously, there are mosquitoes that are carrying some scary diseases, so taking all precautions that I can for the family. I have contacted family who live in Kinlochleven in the Highlands, the midges can be awful there. Is this gadget is also effective against those little ****s, then I think Flextail are really on to a winner.

@@garrypaton2763 funny enough we were in Bali (nusa dua area) . Recommended the spray "jungle formula" level 4 . We have been to Bali over 18 times and this one really works . Tend to use the spray when we go out and about on excursions and then the flex tail went round the pool area. Not sure if you've been to Bali before or not, but it's a lovely place and the people are so friendly. What part are you visiting??

@@WildCamper Various places booked. But, when we got to Ubud, seems like there are lots of rice fields, etc. So, probably loads of mosquitoes. We an also plan on several trips to the NW of the island.. Reckon I'll look into that 'jungle formula' stuff. Obviously, the first trip is always, 'em, 'is is that bad / good / what and where'. The way some people describe Bali on KZfaq, you would think it's the Amazon Basin. (Like, some people who walk the west highlands way compare it to something like the Yukon...yeah...right...) hahaha

Thanks for your ❤ to my comment & I hope to find a “stormin normin” cone system if I’m lucky to find it, your video truly inspired me to obtain what I have because of the “packability” into the cook pots that I use & I was going to & may still diy that cone (toaks ti windscreen) cut to fit, wrap around but it’s too thin lol but I have 3 at $10-$12 each, it’ll need a pot stand I use it in my motel room to cook my food, people are amazed at other areas where I fix my meals…Thanks!

Fun fact: The 360-degree Furno (the first cheap Chinese stove you've tested) has a pretty good review on Australia's outdoor shop. It is only 59AUD, and it comes with a pot set, stove, and canister stand. Most importantly, it just works. What a bargain. I was also curious about what Chinese brand it is since I have never heard of this "360 degree" thing in my life. So I did a bit of searching on Taobao(Aliexpress), and I realized this 360 Degree Furno stove is the exact same as a Chinese brand called "Bulin." The Bulin is an outdoor stove brand that has existed for many years(at least more than two decades). It has many good reviews from those 2000-2010s hikers and overlanders. But their product design didn't look so great compared to brands from Japan and the US.

Trail Designs makes something they call the caldera cone. I used an online truncated cone calculator to get the numbers and went ahead and made my own cone out of aluminum. The source for that was a cheapo turkey pan from the supermarket that I flattened out, made a template, traced & cut it out, etc. 2 cups of tap water (50-ish degrees) boils in 3 minutes 23 seconds (rolling boil was 3,m 44s). Your results may vary, but my usual boil times are 5 to 6 minutes (I use Yellow HEET).
