On the block it’s not always a bad idea to do a behind the back bc depending on how much room the double team is giving u, u could do a hop step into a layup
@CONLEYHOOPSАй бұрын
Hop step is definitely better most of the time. The behind the back I think is risky and if it didnt' work a coach would be mad at that turnover.

Why?🤣
@CONLEYHOOPSАй бұрын
lol. Ya it probably would help to have the double team shown.

If I have a quick strong and athletic short kid on me and I can’t possibly can’t get lower without falling what do I do?😢
@CONLEYHOOPSАй бұрын
Yes that makes it more difficult. The idea behind that is get space and use your length for shots. Always keep the ball high when finishing

My problem is I rush too much… gotta work on my pacing
@CONLEYHOOPS2 ай бұрын
yes. So many players rush. When I started working out. I always worked slow to fast So my footwork and eyes would keep up. I always wanted to see the space instead of being too fast.

I teach my kids the “clip the hip” method, where you’re aiming to bump the defender’s hip as you pass them to keep a tight angle to the rim. I also teach a modified swim move to throw the defender’s hand behind you as you start your drive. In other words, as you start your drive your off hand reaches out and swipes the defender’s hand on your driving side, pushing it down and behind you as you take your first step.

Love that! Great tips. Teaching players to engage with defenders once they get angles is so important.

I am a 6 foot 3 center at 8th grade I usually have 3-5 inches over my defender should i just go one pound to the basket or go for a patrick Ewing fadeaway
@CONLEYHOOPS4 ай бұрын
Footwork is key and getting angles will eliminate working to hard to get buckets. But you should always be versatile. When you have advantages you should attack the basket.

Thank you coach I was thinking about the pressure that I feel when I’m trying to do so much, but I don’t have to score 20 or 30 points every game,I just have to take my time so I shouldn’t rush myself😅
@CONLEYHOOPS4 ай бұрын
I see a lot of players press. It’s a fine line between playing hard and playing in a hurry. Play within yourself and work on playing super focused. Play with high level of energy and the ball will find you and the basket.
