Hello Austin, greetings from Turkey. It means a lot to you to share your knowledge so generously. I would like to make a small contribution: Someone else can record the video while you explain the set-up. Thank you for your efforts

Thank you for another great video! Question about the second styleout, with that light to the right of the camera that was gridded and diffused for the inside of the cabinet door, the modeling light shows a harsh shadow to the left of the cabinet. In the photo that shadow isn’t there, is that because once all flashes are fired the key light eliminates that shadow?
@austinlindsay
@austinlindsay Ай бұрын
Thank you! And yes, you’re seeing a hard shadow because I only have the modeling light on for the light I was explaining. And since it was at such a low power, as you correctly pointed out, the hard shadow from that particular light would’ve been filled in by the other lights. :)

@@austinlindsay Actually when I want to learn about lighting, usually I use some generic key words such as “product photography”, “hard-light photography”, fashion photography etc. but it never showed your channel. Nope. It’s all to personal taste. Start with your ambient light. Get a shot you like. Then turn on your first light. Power that up or down till that light looks good to you. Then turn on your second light and power that up or down till it looks good to you. Rinse an repeat till the photo looks like you want it to.

Can this light be folded in half and then rolled up? I don’t want to damage any part of it, but I need it to fit into a tight storage space
@austinlindsay
@austinlindsay 5 ай бұрын
I’m gonna say no. I haven’t (and wouldn’t try myself) so take all this info as being not tested. You can sort of fold it over (think hanging it over a towel rack) if you needed to for a specific shot, or simple storage, but the moment you crease the fold I feel it would be permanent. Again, I haven’t tried so I can’t be certain, but it seems like it may not damage anything. But, the moment you crease the fold I don’t think you’d be able to ever get the crease out. But, yea personally I’d answer your question with a “no”. Hope that helps.

Very impressive work! I really like that you walk us trough your lights and the reasons behind it. But just out of curiosity and for learning, does the other fill light on the left also kinda work as a bigger key light? Or would that ruin the direction of the light that is coming in? I would love to spend a day on set just to learn everything there is to it! Seems like you are someone that you could learn lots of things from! Greetings from the Netherlands!
