Love the old CBS telecasts. Always had the feel of a big game even if it wasn't one.

You kids today really have no idea how different football was back in the 70s. It was so much better. Monday Night Football was the game the entire country tuned in to every week. It was a huge deal for the teams playing at night & on nationwide TV which was rare. The brand of football was just different. Harder hits, tougher players. Teams didn’t like each other. The players took it all personally. They weren’t spoiled like they are today. I could write on & on about this subject. If you experienced it, you know what I’m talking about. Just the sound of Howard Cosell’s voice takes me back.

This was the first game televised when the Blackout was lifted. Before that I had to listen to the Radio to the legendary Marty Glickman who was the greatest Giants play by play guy of all time. To actually see my team playing in Yankee Stadium I will be forever grateful to the Senator from D.C. who couldn't watch the Redskins in the NFC Championship Game because of Pete Rozelle's blackout rule. He called the NFL and Rozelle before Congress and got the rule changed.

It's quite obviously the 1975 Houston Oilers are the best season team ever....if only they wished had beaten competitive Pittsburgh and Cincinnati ( which they lost to two teams that year) but 10-4 (1975 season)have said it all for me........ RIP Bubba Smith and Bum Philips.. Now that's had being said.... It's now the Tennessee Titans (in Nashville), and Houston Texans (currently team).... When they moved to Tennessee after the 1996 season, and before changing the name to Titans by the 1999 season.. it's fair for me to say that all bets are off... However, It's also fair for me to say that Tennessee coulda, shoulda, woulda have been an NFL expansion, by it's own admission on merits (which i understand that's business in the league)...... But there's nothing i can say about the topic of the conversation..... So I can live with that and take it... into consideration. However, if you like.... you can write and sign a petition to get the Houston Oilers name back 🤔🤨... Just a thought..... otherwise, thanks for playing the 1975 Houston Oilers Highlight Video.. You're the best ❤️💙🏈🇺🇸

this was my favorite era of the NFL. also, i just noticed, the Steelers had MIAMI painted in one of their end zones?!? that's crazy, never noticed that. wonder if that was standard for all the playoff games that season. to have the opponents city in one of the home team's end zone

The Vikings were the best team in the NFL this season also this era of Viking defense is the greatest defense that's ever played in the NFL how they didn't come out of this with at least two super bowls is beyond me they had everything people don't realize what a great defense is if they did not see the purple gang at its best they were like nothing you've ever seen on a football field when they was on you couldn't do nothing and everybody says well they didn't stop the run in those super bowls for the life of me I don't know why that was the case because during the regular season they would be number one against the run four or five different times in the '70s they was the number one team at stopping the run so I don't know I know against the dolphins that was one of the greatest teams that's ever assembled so I understand I'm not being able to stop the run in that game cuz nobody could stop that team but they still held them to just 24 points the purple gang still didn't get blown out like that

Niners not getting much respect in this because it was early in the season and they got off to a slow start. Would go 13-3 and beat the Bengals in the SB though.

The night of 60+ fans arrested at the stadium, which lead to the NFL and Foxborough taking Sullivan Stadium/Foxborough Stadium off the MNF selection for 14 years. It took Mr. Kraft a lot of convincing on his end to get the NFL to give them a MNF game again in 1995.

As great as these Chargers offenses were, they also turned the ball over a lot, especially in playoff games. For example: 1979 against the Oilers, Fouts three 5 INTs 1980 against Raiders, Chargers had 3 turnovers, including 2 Fouts INTs. 1981 against Bengals, San Diego had 4 turnovers 1982 against Dolphins, Bolts had 7 turnovers, including 5 Fouts INTs. Some may argue that it was the lack of a good defense or running game that doomed the Chargers. However, they had good defenses in 1979 and 1980. They also had a good running game in 1980-1982, with Muncie rushing more than 1000 yards in 1981. I guess the old Coryell saying is true: they lived and died by the pass. Unfortunately in playoff games, when they faced better teams, they did in fact die by their strength.

What I really enjoy about watching this older NFL games is that after players on offense & defense make a play, they just get ready for the next. Unlike today's NFL in which players jump up & down like if they have ants up their ass on every play. Old school football was the best.
