I hope he was blessed with a great life after the War because he sure did deserve it and I hope he rests in peace along with so many that went before him and are fading away each and every day. What a great man, brave, humble and part of the greatest generation that raised me to have so much respect for their sacrifices.

Wow! That poor man lived through more hellish/nightmare scenarios in any one of those single days than the most 'hardened' of people would ever experience in an entire lifetime. Most guys like him shrug off being labeled a hero and say that those that didn't come home were the heroes. I agree they are heroes, but he and his peers are no less heroic. Mr. Newman and the guys like him that were able to come home carried the weight and burden of each of those traumatic experiences burned deeply into their memories and thoughts each-and-every day for the remainder of their lives. That is a very significant sacrifice for our country, for our people, and our freedom. May God rest his soul and cover him with peace that he gave up for us.

Thank you, Robert. My gpa was a great American and you're right, he never called himself that. He died March 4, 2021. He planted many seeds which grew into trees he'll never sit under. He's my hero and measuring stick.

Thank you for this video. I’m from Saipan mixed with German roots and you could see evidence of these brave men all over the place. Destroyed Sherman and Japanese tanks, various shell casings and ammunition among others.

I could listen to this man all day. I’m thankful for his story, and for all of the efforts of countless people who got on their horses to collect, and produce, the stories of these men. These accounts are true and tangible snippets of history, as tragic as they are, they are proof that spoken history must be required listening if we are to improve the human condition.
