I play with a weekly local jam group that is a mixture of anyone that wants to show to play and sing along. We have guitars, banjos, fiddles, accordions and a saxophone. I play spoons but my problem is I get excited and enthusiastic and sometimes get too loud. 😂 In order to tame it I tie the spoons together so I can still do the movement and rhythm but not make noise 😊

Hah, I'm not very experienced but just playing along to songs for fun I always found the slow songs harder to clack to, so I laughed when this clip first started. Like that would kill me...I love when it took off though!

Thank you. I picked up some wooden playing spoons with no experience with them and 10 min into playing them the question arose, "How do people play these w/o protection? There must be some way to make this less painful." Now I know the answer is; what ever works! Thank you again.

Hi, thank you for the lesson, I am from Austria and really amused. My father showed me once to play the spoons, yes, this was done also here, but the time and live let me forget to play this art. Thank you for the input. You are great.

It's not that one person created this, it's just that back in the old days musicians couldn't always afford real percussion instruments so they improvised one using spoons. It was popular in folk music from the British isles but it can also be found in other folk music like Turkish folk music.

How are you getting on learning the spoons...My only advise is to start small i.e....teaspoons..and work upwards. That way you'll get the knack of holding them (not letting them slip).. That's how I started..☺ .
