So terrible lol I’m only watching season 2 to see just how much worse it can get. Oh, and I’m calling it now - remember how they announced this as being 5 seasons? No way that’s going to happen. They’re going to cancel it after season 3. If they even greenlight a season 3 in the first place.

I didn’t hate ROP. Stuff actually happened in the show versus season one House of Dragons. Where barely anything happened. People lost their mind when a sick old man walked for a minute to the iron throne. But I do appreciate honest criticism of popular media.

that walking scene in HOTD had more impact because of the things built up around it and what it meant emotionally for the characters . it wasnt just action nonsense

I agree that HOTD has a problem with pacing, especially this season. And I want to flat out agree with you, but I unfortunately thought that scene was really friggin good. I don’t know how or why watching a decrepit old man walk down a hall managed to be so intense and captivating, but it was. Did you watch it yourself or just hear about it? Cuz I feel like without the context of what lead up to the walk, the scene would not be able to have the same impact as it would otherwise.

Midra was not fit to he the lord of the frenzy, but is a very hard boss. The Aging Untouchables are supposed to let the player feel like they can have a false sense of pride that they can defeat the untouchables yet face the reality that they are impossible to defeat, hence stealth HAS to be their only option UNLESS they like parrying the shit out of everything. The reason the flame of frenzy didn’t spread is that it still needs a vessel in order to burn down everything. Since Midra was defeated, the frenzy couldn’t spread
@ethanbradberry522410 күн бұрын
The mansion and midra were great, the untouchables were op as hell until you learn their parry timing, and then they are pretty easy. The rest does suck though, the forest feels so lifeless and empty, without any good loot at all or places to explore

Can agree that the area was unnecessary, but it's not the place itself - the atmosphere is fine, I also liked the bit with the Hornsent being present there as well, the introduction to the area was also wonderful. My main problem with the area is, that it's just rats and the same Untouchable encounters all over the place with hardly any areas or points of interest present - while Torrent is permanently disabled in that area. I wouldn't mind the latter part, if the area itself has much to offer and more gimmicks than just 'Oh there is that one enemy type, where you have to sneak past by, you better not fight it until you get the hint in the manor how to kill it'. It really felt like they put this area last minute into the DLC or just started it, but never finished it properly. Which is a shame, because it had a lot of promise. A lot of people suggested already, that it would have felt more satisfying and logical, if there was always one major monster lurking in that area, that comes out of the shadows, feels like it is unbeatable until you reach a point, where you 'reveal' that enemy (maybe near the waterfall) and then get the proper bossfight with it. Prior to this it could hunt you through the level - perhaps it is some sort of headless horseman in reference to Lord of the Rings, perhaps a crazed Night Cavalry even with flaming eyes. Especially on that one path which you take to the east in order to reach the church, I would have hoped to see some sort of LotR reference, because I associated it briefly with the Nazgul scene, where the Fellowship had to briefly hide off the road as it passed by. THAT would have made quite the impact in my eyes. But instead it's just one meager dude patrolling the road, whom you can finish off easily and... that was for the time being all the horror I saw. Until I stumbled later on the Untouchables and well... I wasn't super impressed with them and their weird rubberband-follow mechanic. But yeah, the area could have been smaller for what it was or at least needed more landmarks. Unlike for example the finger ruins, where I sorta get that they look just massive in order to give a grand scenery, the Abyssal Woods felt just overbloated and like they tried to fill up leftover space that they hadn't covered on the world map yet.

Frenzy flame is meant to incinerate all that divides and distinguishes, per shabriri. Meaning burn and kill all touched by grace, those trees are not erdtrees, so they are not infected. The animals and people are touched by grace however, so they are afflicted with madness. The flame itself is also just a representation of madness, an allegory to how the outer god wants to spread and destroy like fire does. But it’s still not fire. The only time we see madness actually manifest as fire is by the lord of frenzied flame, and incants. And obviously Midra had suppressed being the lord till you fight him so no frenzied flame could spread, and even then it’s not fire so it wouldn’t spread the same.

My problem wouldn’t be the frenzy flame… it’s the fact that THAT place loses the fear factor very quickly, at least for me. Started off AMAZINGLY, being that i was terrified, why is torrent so afraid, what is out there that couldn’t be touched. It kinda loses that quality very quickly and the area just becomes a boring place, where items aren’t worth grabbing, areas not worth exploring etc. I just wish they forward and become more creative with the abyssal forest and up the fear factor by a little bit, heck, maybe add a new unique enemy, that we’ve never seen before and is only located in that area. Anyways, that’s just my opinion.

Maybe the forest had already been burned away. Perhaps if the frenzied flame were to ever truly take over, this is what the world would look like. A dark, desolate, empty forest full of practically unkillable monsters. I kinda like the creepy vibes from the place. How it was really dark and it made you use stealth instead of allowing you to run away. It makes the place stand out in my mind because it’s the one place where fighting isn’t really an option (besides parrying), it’s the one place where Torrent refuses to help you, it’s a place that you should never have entered.
@mediumbeetle996411 күн бұрын
It’s not that i don’t like the vibes of the forest; the atmosphere was great. I just wanted to fight more frenzy-specific enemies, and wanted more info on the actual intentions of the flame itself. I think if the frenzy flame were characterized as something specifically used to burn souls, and not necessarily physical material as well, i woulda had less of a problem with it. As for it being a place i never should have entered, well then Fromsoft shoulda provided me woth an in-game CONSEQUENCE for entering, sorta like how u get an alternate ending in the bade game. The actual impact of the area in relation to the rest of the story felt lacking. Something like a side quest or an event woulda helped make the area truly feel like a regrettable destination.
@lsheltothewanderer888311 күн бұрын
@@mediumbeetle9964 I can understand the lack of enemies. But for me the consequences of entering this area is that it’s simply terrifying to be there. That was one of the first times in Elden Ring since launch that I wanted to desperately leave a place. Yet I felt this itch to explore the area, there had to be something here, anything here…….but there wasn’t. It’s an empty, burned, shell of what it once was. A place that probably once teemed with life and beauty has been rendered into an awful, disgusting, horrific place that only the foolish or the brave would dare to trespass on despite several signs telling you not to. It reminds me of Dark Souls when you fight Sif and the lore behind his character isn’t necessarily just a giant wolf trying to kill you. It’s a wolf trying to protect you from being consumed/corrupted by darkness like Artorius was. I get that same feeling with Midra. He’s a man who found something that he shouldn’t have, who dabbled in something that only brought him pain and suffering and now he’s trying to keep YOU from enduring that same fate or worse, unleashing it upon others. I can also understand the disappointment in how empty the place is, but I feel like that might be the point. Like this is what the Frenzied Flame will do to The rest of the world if left unchecked. I can appreciate its unique approach, how it basically forces you to ignore every principle the game has taught you up until that point. You can’t be aggressive, you can’t ride on horseback through this area and be done with it. It forces you to hide and cower while yet intriguing you to continue. There’s also the possibility that Fromsoft had more they wanted to do with this place but simply ran out of time to do it in.
@mediumbeetle996411 күн бұрын
@@lsheltothewanderer8883 Well said, i respect that. The only thing I sorta disagree with is I found the area quite beautiful, but I like cloudy days, I like fog, I like forbidden forest vibes, so thats really just me having an odd taste in aesthetic more than anything else. Thanks for the detailed response tho, I don’t feel as let down as i did before!
@lsheltothewanderer888311 күн бұрын
@@mediumbeetle9964 oh it’s definitely a beautiful landscape. That’s one of the things Fromsoft excels at more than anyone else is the ability to create a magnificent landscape for just about all of their locations! When I say dark or ugly, I mean it in the best way. Kinda like how Calid is an awful disgusting place, but it’s beautiful to look at the detail it has.
