Never heard the Anglia flag being called "hateful" before. I'd honestly love to see some footage from the final day of the Knight and the first day of the Flag. It must've been a very interesting transition (especially because Anglia dropped their old mechanical clock for an electronic one in the process).

4:24 So satisfying to hear a rare occurrence of the word 'laugh' pronounced correctly on TV. Where I was brought up, in Central land, we also don't have larfs or barfs, we have laffs and baffs.

Tyne Tees really did have issues with those GVG mixing sequencers in the news and continuity studios - you'll note that both coming out of, and wiping back into the titles there was sound dropout - this was more prominent in continuity but the one in studio 2 was prone to it as well. Went on like that for well over a decade!

Re Network North... in the 1991 franchise round, Tyne Tees made a commitment to putting out a full half hour news bulletin at 10:30 each night. They already had a ten minute or so opt-out in Northern Life for the south of the area. Granada (who were bidding against them) countered this by proposing a separate main news programme for the Bilsdale patch. When TTT merged with YTV one of the first things to be canned by Yorkshire was this late bulletin. It messed up their plans for a common schedule and was considered too costly. But the ITC pointed out that this extra programme was part of a commitment to increase the regional hours put out in the NE. The compromise was to implement Granada's proposal instead, something that had proven popular in market research. But, the YTV proposal was to put this programme out on both Tyne Tees South and a number of relays and the Hull sub-region of YTV. They even moved some of the YTV news team to the new programme. This was nixed by the ITC quite late in the day and Network North was only ever shown on Tyne Tees even though local press advertised it as being on Yorkshire as well for quite some time. My suspicion is that YTV didn't give up on their desire to show the programme on some YTV transmitters and the promotion in the press was a placeholder. When the whole thing was abandoned in 1996, Tyne Tees then went back to shorter optouts for Bilsdale and the shortfall in hours was made up for by increasing the main bulletin to a full hour. The nearest they ever got to the original proposal came in 2001-2 when the main show was reduced back to a half hour, with opt-outs, and a lunchtime bulletin/magazine show "North East Today" was put out for a while (also with separate shows for Bilsdale). All of these were variations on a theme of fulfilling the original commitment.

For the Christmas Day 1988 ITV schedule, I remember watching all those shows that morning, Mickey's Christmas Carol (recorded it on VHS!) and Dumbo in the afternoon (also taped it!). Was a kid then, so those were special memories of a special day opening toys and games with parents. Thanks for sharing these uploads :)

Well maybe they'd decided on their new typeface...but not the triangles yet? When they were looking for a new identity, the choices were "THE knight, A knight or Good (K)night"

At that time Anglia were forced to retire their iconic silver knight to give the company not just a new logo but to give it a more modern on-screen image in time for the 90s.so the lettering you see on the telethon trailer as ITV were preparing in time for 27-28/5/88,was a hint for their new look identity which began on 21/03/88.before that date anglia kept their new logo under wraps & was never unveiled before that date to the press & the public until it appeared that date at 9.25am.

So I've looked up the dates on Genome, and while it only has a generic description (all the others have show specific descriptions, none of which match what's going on in this edition), this is most likely from 26th March 1987.

This will be from 1995, yes. Between 5th June (that's when that ITN title sequence was introduced) and the end of the year when Network North was dropped.

So, you open up with a rundown of the day's programmes just before a kids' show. The kids watching might want to know what is on Children's ITV later that day - but you don't actually show that information. Yup, that's YTV alright 😂

Points of View - 1st male voice Michael McLain & the 2nd was Astley Jones. Great seeing Carol Hersee playing O & X with Barry Took. Anglia were indeed off the air until around tea-time. With the whole station being off-air, I assume there was some issue at Norwich rather than, or as well as, one of the transmitters? Anglia broadcasts to quite a wide patch of the country, with three main transmitting stations - so unless all three were down, there must have been power issues affecting the feed out of Anglia House. It’s also very unusual to see them join a programme in progress - Movie Memories is the type of show that would normally be played out locally.

Did Thames ever do it's own branded trailers, or was it always on 'ITV'? ATV & Central seemed to do their own branded trailers.

I’m here because of Bob The Fish’s ITV in The Face video series! I was born in 1987 so I wasn’t around for Southern’s closure, but had I been around back then, I might’ve tuned into And It’s Goodbye From Us and upon finding out it was a temper tantrum and that they slandered TVS as part of it, I would’ve dipped in and out to mock them! All that cultural stuff is not my thing, so I would most likely have, just before midnight, turned over to the BBC for whatever they did for New Year on this occasion!
