If you are calling a paraglider "parachute", you are probably calling a car a tractor, right? You should be a mainstream media journalist...
@brianm.29993 ай бұрын
Thanks! These are called "powered parachutes". A "powered paraglider" is what Tucker Gott flies (much cooler than me!). But to be honest, I usually just call it an "airplane" for my grandkids. :)

@@brianm.2999 But one day when I was refueling mine at the Maverik station just down the road, a little girl in a car next to my trailer asked, "What IS that thing?" I tried to make it simple and told her it was "kind of an airplane." She looked at it a while longer and then said with absolute certainty, " NO IT'S NOT!" She sure wasn't gonna let another grownup try to fool HER.

OH NOOO!!! You cut the video off right at the landing where we needed to know about for the N928JP accident. What did that peculiar, steeper than normal 3.75° glide slope look/ feel like after JAMID, and what was your decent rate? Did you have to "dive and drive" to make the runway on landing, or was it a comfortable decent rate to get close to that 40 feet TCH? You look WAY too high coming over the Gem food factory on Final at the end of your video (or did you never fly the 3.75° glide slope on a Final approach to actually land)? Thanks for making this video, especially with overlaying the RNAV plate for great reference!! Hopefully the NTSB Final Report will be released soon (it's been 2 years exactly to today since the accident).
@buckmurdock25003 ай бұрын
You can get incredible detail about the accident from the NTSB final report that was published this week. Probable cause was pilot descending below MDA without required visual cues.

I met a guy in Salmon last week who said he was flying Gem Air from Boise and they made an unplanned stop at some hunting lodge because they ran out of fuel. Have you heard of that one or know where to check on it? I tried Flight Tracker but, wasn't able to get to historic info. Date would have been 31 Aug I believe.

Is there a fee assessed for landing at these airports?
@brianm.29992 жыл бұрын
For the small airports I have been landing at, no. I could even land at a larger airport (say Salt Lake City), and then take off again without being assessed a fee. However, if I stop in at a Flight Business Office at some airports, then they might charge a "handling fee" of some sort. Some airports charge for overnight parking, as well. But like I said, at these small, unmanned airports I've been landing at, there is no fee for landing there.

you should land on Runway 20.
@brianm.29992 жыл бұрын
This is the approach that the Gem Air pilot flew a few weeks ago, ending in a crash. The wind has never been right for me to land on that runway, but even so, I don't like it because of the obstacles just in front of the runway.
@brianm.29992 жыл бұрын
Good idea! There are instrument approaches that exceed the minimum alignment with centerline. The ones that come to mind are called LDA (Localizer-type Directional Aid) approaches. Grand Junction, CO has one. The RNAV approach to Burley's runway 20 is straight-in, though. What I do in this video is "circle" to runway 6...and even on that one, I make a dog-leg final because of some grain elevators in front of that runway.

Haha, i had a nightmare flight to Idaho Falls. It wasn't Idaho Fall's fault, but more of Denver's and Tampa's. You see, i was flying out of TPA to Denver, and planning to catch a connecting flight to Idaho Falls from Denver. Our first flight got delayed until 4 in the after noon, so we had to switch our morning connection to Idaho Falls to a afternoon one. When we got to the runway at Tampa, the whole airport was "shut down" due to bad weather, which is understandable. Our flight at Denver also got delayed (luckily) but not as much as Tampa's 2/3 hour shut down. Finally, we departed from Tampa. Catching our connecting flight was going to be difficult, especially since Denver airport is huge. We were watching the pushback times for our 2nd flight constantly. But then, the time of pushback from Denver was BEFORE deboarding our 1st flight. Right before landing, we checked the times once more, and then saw that our Denver flight didnt pushback until 11:30-11:45 PM... it was 4/5 PM before landing at Denver and we thought the times online HAD to be incorrect. My family and I *Bolted* across Denver airport to our gate, and sure enough, the flight was delayed until 11:45 PM. Eventually, we boarded the flight and took off at around 12 AM. When we landed at around 2 in the morning, we went down to the baggage claim, but we didnt spot our bags. Most of the flight was made up of people connecting, and many of us didn't receive our bags. We all went to the check in desks and asked for all the help possible. Everyone was on the phone calling Denver and the airport they started at, but at around 3AM the majority of passengers missing bags tracked them, including us. Apparently, Denver didnt know which gate to put my family's bags at, since the gate for departure from Denver kept on changing, 2 days later, our bags arrived to our Hotel in Wyoming, since we drove from Idaho Falls to Wyoming after we tracked our bags... thanks for reading this huge paragraph haha
