I agree the time loop thing was not really original. There was undoubtedly some kind of metaphor or meaning intended by the film. While a detailed "explanation" might not really be needed, I think the rule of good filmmaking requires at least more indication of what really happened, and also what could have been the intended interpretation and messages. To say that the viewer should figure out for himself is not really the answer. Personally, I don't really feel much in watching the film, and watching the same two people walking around a pond for one and a half hours was not really a good use of my time.

I haven't seen it yet but you said that Immaculate did everything better without telling what exactly it did better. (Camera movement?) Also I would like it more if you said how the pacing was - where there slow moments or was it enjoyable every minute? But now you made me watch Immaculate more than The First Omen
@danixinhahhh
@danixinhahhh Ай бұрын
To me Immaculate is the superior version of The First Omen - in all regards - I think visually Immaculate is better, the story is better told and it feels more original, I also think the performances are better and overall it's just more my type of horror. As far as the pacing it felt like it had ups and downs, but there was a big dip in the middle and I kind of lost interest for a minute. I definitely recommend Immaculate instead of The First Omen but I know I'm in the minority.

You very very nice. I loved the original, like Prey at Night alot. I was annoyed by this one. Besides being completely unoriginal--it was a mash up of 1 and 2, the characters were so stupid I started rooting for the killers. In the other two movies the protagonists did their best to try to survive. In this one it appeared that they felt they need to help the strangers kill them. I'll still see the ones that are upcoming--because im a glutton for punishment--but I'm not optimistic.

I have this on DVD and also several horror films by Alexandre Aja and seen it 3 times. I also viewed this on Blu-ray. I find that in all his movies he uses the light effects really well and drags viewer deep into the action. I will not give too many recommendations since I also get lots of people suggesting movies to me and difficult to watch all of them...and movies are subjective. But I will give contextual comments... I think films by same director 'Hills Have Eyes' are amongst the best horror movies I seen. Once again, he uses short duration movies so it doesn't drag on... And there is something seriously scary without going into jumpscares... Some scenes are quite graphic, I guess you have experienced full spectrum. But there is lots of thought on his movies... Also Switchblade Romance / Haute Tension.... (this is one movie btw, it goes by different names).. The acting is really immense, music is creepy and its a gripping horror with a storyline also.

@@danixinhahhh Ironic I have not seen original Hills of Eyes... But lots sources said that the remake is much better since with modern CGI the monsters were made to be extremely scarier.. and his use of lighting to create horror in daylight scenes.. it doesn't happen too often in industry.. but Alexandre Aja achieves it... But of course I will still need to watch originals at some point since Wes Craven was the master of horror back in the day. Btw, Hills Have Eyes 2 is co-directed by son of Wes Craven.. so guess horror runs in their blood. Glad to have made a movie buddy btw online, I also keep a track of my scoring on my website and do some reviews now and again. Written ones.

Youre not missing anything. A lot of people love it, but it takes away everything that made the strangers THE STRANGERS, minus the strangers themselves, of course. The original movie had a very unique atmosphere and vibe for the time, but i felt like prey at night they could have replaced the strangers with any generic slasher villains and the movie would be pretty much unchanged. If you like the strangers, def check out prey at night if you can watch it for free, just for the hell of it. But it is very generic and if already it looks unappealing to you i doubt youll be pleasantly surprised when you watch it. I thought it was actually quite boring and had NO atmosphere, which is what made the original so great. As for chapter 1, i have low expectations from the director alone. Hes more of a b grade action thriller director with little expertise when it comes to horror, and he seems to be the wrong person for this franchise. Would much rather it went to a horror vet or a new and upcoming horror director, but really i just feel like i didnt need any other films in this series. The first was a great standalone. I hate this trend on expanding movies just because they were popular.

@@daytonsouthall1137i highly doubt its a prequel if the couple is driving a smart car and renting an airbnb. Sure, airbnb was founded in 2008 so its possible but if it is a prequel, id say its pretty bad writing and it would have been a better idea if they dated the film a little more by not having the smart car or airbnb, things that may have existed but were not ubiquitous with the era in a pop culture sense. It would make more sense for the time period to omit the smart car, have older phone models, and have them, idk, staying at one of their aunts house or something instead of the airbnb. If youre doing a movie that takes place 16 years in the past, its important you use cultural and technological signifiers to communicate that to the audience and establish the time period effectively

Thank you for sharing. I have also seen a lot of movies recently and unusually, also rated this movie really highly. They developed characters really well... and as humans, how the characters were forced to observe the demise of their fellow colleagues. The filming environment was tight, and it also carried lots of dark humour, which was used at the right moments. And yes you are right, there is a message behind the movie which the villain mainly expresses. And unfortunately, as humans, some of these concepts reflect our society not knowing what is real and artificial from the outside the box. I personally think the subdued acting worked quite well, in my opinion. They were contestants of different nationalities and perhaps this stunted the type of reaction to situations...

The film also grounds itself in a distinct culture, with every piece of Mumbai impeccably realized and brought to life. From the serene rural temple to the lavish clubs and the derelict slums, the setting provides a distinct energy to the film, and its vibrant, dynamic nature matches the punchiness of the storytelling. Despite being his debut, Patel demonstrates himself assuredly capable of framing and constructing not only great action but a superb visual palette in general. At many points, the film is ugly but deliberately so and packed with shots that subtly indicate deeper meaning and beg for analysis. One must be very grateful for Jordon Peele seeing its potential and acquiring it for theatrical release, as it is quite the spectacle that demands a large screen for its full effect to wash over you, “John Wick but in India,” it extends far beyond that and is easily one of the best action films of the decade.

Why is there the need for an explanation? The film carries with it a responsibility to figure out for oneself. This is not a linear film. Do you want an explanation? Okay. The ending is quite revealing. It appears that whatever variations of Dan and Jen are here are two that have found a way to spend eternity together in a space/time horror situation. Remember in the beginning and with certain variations of the couple they can't stand each other.

I do feel like its lacking in a lot of areas but i think the concept is really good. I wish the husband was more nuanced instead of being a manchild at times. If they were going to make commentary on relationships i think its characters should be really fleshed out. I do love the mindbending moments, the immediate connections of the time loop was nice. The husband was somewhat close to the truth, it seemed like it was something alien that was causing the time loop.

I thought the movie was defiantly mid, like you said, but mannnn did Chauncy looks fantastic. I loved his monster bear form. Just so cool. I went into this movie though, thinking there were going to be a lot more monsters, and there would be a lot more to the imagination spookyness. I would have loved more of the imaginary world but unfortunately that didn't really happen. I'm a huge fan of horror and monster movies so the commercials made me think this was going to be more monster movie than family drama but I don't expect a lot from newer horror.
