Shouldn’t this play really be called “The Vulva Monologues,” because if you crouch over a mirror and look down, you are seeing your vulva, not your vagina. The vagina is internal. Like if you shifted the mirror back, you’d be looking at your anus, not your rectum. It seems that they are mostly talking about vulvas in this play, except for the section about tampons and birth. Like you can’t shave your vagina. But you can shave your vulva. But it seems this play was named “The Vagina Monologues” for marketing purposes, since that is more attention-getting and most people hearing “vulva” would probably say, “What?” But this play, using the wrong terminology and perpetuating ignorance of the female body, doesn’t exactly come off as feminist. And even if it was called “The Vulva Monologues,” it’s still pretty boring and juvenile.
