We had a brilliant time Andre. The heat knocked us for six at first. We’re just not used to it. Actually, I got some funny shots of us in the car, using it as a cooling area and the three of us look cooked. We went down to Key West to Truman’s Little White House and I said to the guy running a tour that I can’t imagine how people could live there given the suits that they wore and the heat. (Let alone the cowboys in the 19th century. He said, they normally kept one working set of clothes and in Truman’s case, they hung the clothes in an open closet so air could move through and stop mildew forming and they were just left to dry! Yuk. I honestly don’t know how they did it. I met a guy from Texas who said it was hotter there, but not as humid, much dryer. How on earth did cowboys wear leather gear and work outdoors in it there? I also saw photos of Billy the Kid and Wyatt Earp, plus others in really heavy clothes. Madness!!!

How to capture ambient sound using this microphone? Something like at the airport.
@iancraig
@iancraig 3 күн бұрын
I don’t think it’s any different to other sounds except I think I might use a dynamic mic since the sounds being recorded would be so loud if you include jet engines. General airport sounds would be best in stereo or surround and the internal mics would capture it ok.

@@iancraig sorry, i used wrong preposition. Should have used 'in'. I was thinking of recording the announcement and interactions of people (walking/talking/wheel noises from suitcases) from multiple angles. Sort of 'spatial audio'. Would 4ch be the best option?
@iancraig
@iancraig 3 күн бұрын
Oh ok. 4 channel would be great, only if you play back on a 4 channel system. Stereo is way more common, so if you record spatial sound and mix down to stereo, that will give you a nice wide sound. I tend to stick with pure stereo.

I have not been able to find another reference on the internet that evaluated the quality of the internal microphone of the HDR-CX450, but I did find that of the HDR-CX405. Great review but I still have an issue: I am trying to input my audio interface (Behrenget 1820) in Zoom without success. I was told phantom power not necessary. Help, please.
@iancraig
@iancraig 23 күн бұрын
I’m not familiar with that particular interface but it might be useful to test each separately. Make sure you are getting audio from the output of the interface and plug a mic directly into the Zoom to make sure that it is accepting audio. If they both work individually, maybe check phantom power switches on both. Turn off on the Zoom but on, on the interface. I’m guessing that you want to use more than two mics? If not, I would go directly into the camera myself. That will take two on left and right channels. The preamp on the Zoom is quite nice.

I didn’t notice and to be honest, I never used it that much. It’s a mono mic with a stereo 3.5mm plug so theoretically, it should send the same amount to each side. Also, I would have mixed it to mono so it might be what you’re listening on.
@larryboyce
@larryboyce 27 күн бұрын
You compliment the audio performance, but it looks like you're using an externnal mic in many of your scenes. Why?
@iancraig
@iancraig 27 күн бұрын
Because the external mic fits directly into the camera preamp. It has a very good preamp, with an auto camera bolted on. This isn’t a video that demos the camera. I’m talking about my feelings after having used it for a while and what I feel are the good and bad things about it. When recording audio in a room, to get as clear speech as possible, I used a dynamic mic (one of the better ones too) and it was plugged straight into the camera. You see, the preamp is good enough to drive a dynamic mic. Also, for speech, I didn’t want to use stereo so using onboard stereo mics in a room didn’t really make much sense unless I was vlogging or something. The camera is awful handheld. No stabilisation. So I also had to use a tripod.
@larryboyce
@larryboyce 27 күн бұрын
@@iancraig So the audio processing of the camera is good, but the camera mics not so much? I was hoping to use the camera standalone for recording myself playing acoustic guitar and singing. Are you saying that an external mic would be preferred for this?
@iancraig
@iancraig 27 күн бұрын
Anyone recording decent sound would use external mics. The stereo mic that they supply is OK but you will pick up more room sound. It really depends what you’re doing with the recording. Good enough for quick takes with probably more room reverb because the camera determines where the mic is going to be placed. You have no choice. For better sound you need two mono mics. One by the sound hole and the other pointing at the 12th fret. If it’s just a demo of something, then the stereo mic is ok. Edit: just realised you want to record voice, so one mic on guitar. Start at sound hole and move up slowly towards fretboard to find best audio spot. Second mic for voice, close up.

In that case, the stereo mic will be fine although it will tend to sound a bit ‘bathroomy’ unless you get close to curtains or something. The stereo mic produces a little more self noise than a real quality mic but no one will probably notice. Just play and sing loud!

I am using a Gopro Hero 7. Just with the stock mic I am picking up a lot of low sounding roar from traffic. What mic would be best for not picking that traffic noise?
@iancraig
@iancraig Ай бұрын
All of these mics will do a better job than the GoPro mics. That’s because they are directional. If you face the traffic with them, it will be just as loud, but if you point away from the traffic, they will be better. In all honesty, they will all do pretty much a similar job rejecting the noise. Bear in mind that the GoPro has a very wide field of view so those mics with bulky deadcats might well show. Imo, the Takstar ‘sounds’ the best. But with all of them, you may have to use the narrowest field of view.

If you hold the camera pointing to the ground with the loupe lens pointing up, you'll concentrate the sun on a single spot on your screen and will burn it, with a permanent yellow mark. Once you've stood like that for several minutes you'll have a family of yellow marks all over the screen. The loupe lens is a magnifying glass. I damaged two cameras before I realised. _// Thanks for sharing the video! Let me tell you something important: God loves you! God loves us ! He is no respecter of persons! because God wants us all to be saved! and let's go to the knowledge of the “Truth” God wants to save us from eternal damnation, which we all deserve because of sin, who entered the world through Adam, and death entered through sin, and thus death passed to all human beings, Therefore, we are all “Sinners” But God's Love was so great for us, that he sent his only Son (Jesus Christ), gave him to this world, to die and rise for all of us! No Respect of Persons! so that everyone who believes in Jesus Christ does not go to eternal punishment, but rather has “Eternal Life!” “ Jesus Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures; and he was buried, and rose again on the third day, according to the Scriptures Jesus Christ came to call sinners to “Repentance! “ and, he who believes in Him, has “Eternal Life! “But whoever refuses to believe in Jesus Christ, the wrath of God remains on him. Then, as through Adam's transgression, condemnation came to all human beings, in the same way, through the justice of Jesus Christ, justification of life came to all human beings! All of us who believe in The Only Savior of the world! The Only Mediator between God and us! The Lord Jesus Christ! The son of God! All of us who trust in Him; we have “Eternal Life! “ And we must know that there is salvation in no one else; because there is no other name under heaven, given to human beings, in which we can be saved. Only by Believing/Trusting in “Jesus Christ” can we be Saved! But Jesus Christ also said: Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Therefore, we must be doers of the Word of God! and not only listeners and/or readers, deceiving ourselves. So let's read the Word of God! There is His Will! what God wants us to do! Let us read mainly the Gospels; Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, and let us pray to God, our Heavenly Father, all the days of the life that He gave us! God loves you! God loves us! To Him alone be the Glory Forever! Amen! The Action 2 attracted me because of its diminutive size. When I first tried it, I was underwhelmed with my footage and felt that it just didn't look that great. Following that, I virtually never used it. Recently, I've been wanting to take video without drawing too much attention to myself, so I decided to just give it another go. I've used the Action 4 which is a brilliant little camera, since it came out and never understood why I felt so bad about the Action 2. So this is a quick little video about nothing in particular, using just the Action 2 and its internal mic, wandering around to see what I get. Just one thing, Don't use an ND filter while walking!!! The shutter is too slow and you get poor stabilisation as I found at the start of this video. I was just too lazy to take it off!!!!
