Fun fact. Reuser played at Vitesse Arnhem and Ipswich. Frans Thijssen played at Ipswich and Vitesse Arnhem.

He was troubled by injury problems during his Ipswich Town career. Despite this, he managed to score six goals in his first full season with the club, establishing himself as one of the most dangerous attacking midfielders in the Premier League, helping Ipswich to an impressive fifth-place finish in the 2000-01 season and a return for the club to UEFA Cup football. After that, however, the injuries really set in. Ipswich was relegated the following season and he also fell out with new manager Joe Royle.

611 appearance at club level, 223 goals from 1975-1997 is an amazing record for a midfielder. 20 of those final goals were when he was aged 32-40, that's staggering! Seven goals in 29 appearances for Scotland, usually playing as a defender. All this time playing against the absolute best players in England, Europe, the world, including Maradona in a friendly! That might be unique in worldwide football, not just England. He had some career. More than that he is a humble, quiet man, but he was one of the all-time great dressing-room inspirations, he'd rouse the team into a winning spirit and that is a hard thing to do, but Wark had that spirit about him on the field and off it. Easily in my Scotland XI. Never understood why Ipswich always wore their change kit at Highbury & Arsenal wore their change kit at Portman Road, since when do blue shirts clash with red ones? Even in the 1978 FA Cup Final, one side wore their change kit.

Even though I was a West Ham fan as a kid, I used to pretend I was Paul Mariner when playing football in the school playground and with my mates on the field. A proper footballer. Very sad to hear the news
