Can I ask if you do cut them off during Nov-Dec month if the leaves are still green? I live in Bay area and we don’t have that harsh of winter/freeze time for it to turn yellow

Hi from Germany and thank you for the valuable information in this channel. Am having a bad gopher problem here too. Great information in your videos and why didn't you post in the last years.

Okay so I've already made a huge mistake and haven't even sold 1 flower yet. Lol ooops. I will definitely be keeping track of all this though and logging the data since I ordered all willy nilly and what I thought was super pretty. Plus I already know I'm starting way to many varieties for a first yr grower. I was kind of hoping it was was going to be easier than organic veggie growing and went crazy ordering seeds.

Kay, followed your exact instructions this weekend. Both in trays and outdoors 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼They even got a nice little rain sprinkle 😃Thanks for the excellent video, please keep them up! You clearly know your stuff and we have lots of gardeners in sac and need 9b experts!!💕

B-side!! Please ramp up your channel!! There are so many Sacramento 9b gardeners, but no good you tube channels. There are a couple florida 9b farmers posting every time they sneeze then struggling to monetize 😴 but I can see you have so much knowledge! We need you! So I’m confused, the peony videos were posted now but I think they must be from spring? Do 9b peonies bloom again in fall? 🤭

I didn't know there were so many types of hoophouses. I can imagine a high tunnel is less work than a low tunnel. That sounds tedious.

I never knew there were so many names for hoop houses! Low hoops are handy to get a jump start in the vegetable garden for those plants that don’t appreciate being transplanted.

I'm excited to learn more about propagating from cuttings in this class! I have only very recently tried taking cuttings of a few different plants, the one I have done successfully is rosemary. I'm trying it out with a cape gooseberry, we'll see how it goes. I've also heard that grafting with tomatoes is commonly done to aid in disease resistance (grafting heirlooms onto disease-resistant rootstock). Although I feel like grafting may put the plant under a lot of stress, and doesn't occur in nature, so I wonder if this is really more effective in preventing disease than just fostering a balanced soil ecology and inoculating with mycorrhizae to boost the plants' immune system. Does anyone have any experience with tomato grafting, and if so have you noticed less incidence of disease?

In the past I’ve just split bulbs, strawberries & artichokes. Right now I’m doing raspberries, elderberries & currents. Fun to watch your plants multiply!

Very interesting showing the comparison between sexual and asexual reproduction. I didn't know banana plants don't have seeds! I second Perrie's question below; I am fascinated by grafting but feel so intimidated by it. -LM

I remember watching a documentary once on how difficult it is to obtain a banana seed. It's one of those weird plants with an odd number of ploidy so the seed essentially aborts unless the perfect combination genes bearing the right mix of chromosomes occurs. It's crazy because so many Latin American economies depend on the Cavendish banana, which are essentially propagated from one individual (Irish-potato-famine-style). The documentary followed a group of plant scientists trying to increase diversity in the banana and it showed them squishing up hundreds of them trying to find one tiny little black seed. I wish I could vegetatively propagate. It certainly would take the pressure off dating. bloop. New Loni!

I'm excited to use the kits! I saw all the new shoots coming off of the rosemary and I had a feeling haha. I would really like to practice grafting. Can anyone suggest a good "beginners graft" to try (like what plants or type of graft is easiest)?
@loniker9163 жыл бұрын
I would also like to know more about gopher prevention. With grapevines, we worry more about voles than gophers, although we combat both with a good owl box (heat panels, no perch, east-facing). I can't imagine an owl box would work well in a hoop house. Gophers decimated my roommates cannabis crop last year, so much that she is planting only in pots this year. We've considered blowing them up, which sounds fun but I'm not sure of the efficacy of such a method. We have a few clients that struggle with ground squirrels and my theory is that vulture presence tends to keep them away, not because vultures hunt squirrels but just because any big scary bird in the area frightens them off. Anyway, good luck this time around!

The way I propagate(asexual) my ornamental banana is essentially dividing(division) the suckers that grow from base of the tree (Mother plant). I Have done for roughly for ten years from one plant my dad bought a decade ago. Not the same originally tree, but multiply throughout the years
@gracebethel92193 жыл бұрын
That is so cool that you've been able to propagate that plant for years, you said ornamental banana so it's not fruiting right? Your plant obviously does well here, I'm assuming outside, but I was wondering if a fruiting plant would do as well or would need a warmer or more humid climate?

How do we prevent gophers from eating our plants? I have a huge gopher problem on my property, and for an experiment, I used chicken wire to make a basket in the ground to prevent gophers from eating my summer squash and melons. But, I only planted four different melons/squash because the chicken wire baskets were time consuming to put in the ground.. to make my garden more larger scale, how do we keep the gophers out?

I just finished getting many of my spring veggies in my greenhouse! I don’t really have any interest in cannabis or landscape/house plants, as I’m trying to primarily plant vegetables and California natives, which don’t require a greenhouse. Nice video! -Elissa
