Love this video Steve! Appreciate what you do. I caught the biggest Sturgeon of my life on the Penn 700. Hope you are well! - Tony

I have the exact same reel. Does anyone out there know where I can get an aftermarket "power handle"?
@StevenMiller-cx4rrАй бұрын
You can try joining Real Penn Reels on Facebook and someone will know. You can try Accuratefishing.com Gomexus is a great aftermarket handle manufacturer. There’s a place called Performance or something but you can email me directly at [email protected]. I’ll help

Never used a dial caliber for the drag stack. Great idea for sure
@StevenMiller-cx4rrАй бұрын
That way I know what was originally in there and then I have to reproduce that same thickness but remembering that I have to use the “spring” as my last washer. If you think about the surface area of the original stack then almost double that with the carbon fiber and stainless steel washers that dissipate heat & pressure incredibly better than the asbestos and chrome plated washers.

Great info I love learning new ways to do this and you make it so easy.

I ended up buying this reel. Love the reel and the video

I love that I’m able to take a special reel like that, turn it into a video and basically present the buyer with proof that the reel was serviced and upgraded like I claim. Plus you can save it. You live less than 10 miles from my real home in Cortez, Florida but amazingly live a couple hours from where I’m recovering in Ohio. Can’t wait for pictures!

Awesome video! Just picked up a 10/0 and a 9/0 for a great price that need a little TLC! I’ve done a 6/0 before, are they all the same?
@StevenMiller-cx4rrАй бұрын
You’ll find that all the senators with the black side plates are basically the same just bigger and smaller versions. The same applies to most conventional reels even different brands all have similar designs.

Love the "tricks", acetone/transmission fluid, or dab of grease on screwdriver to hold screw. Great info. Taking my 712 out to a New Jersey jetty this week. Looking for blues, weakfish, stripers, flounder.

It’s been difficult to work on reels, I’m now able to stand without assistance for almost a minute. After spending 4 years in a wheelchair, working out for 6 hours a day is kinda fun in a way. Only negative issue is the horrible nerve pain. I really think I’m going to walk again. Thanks for your support, that means so much. I’ll be looking you up.

This is what happens when reels are not put away washed down, well lubricated and the drag loosened up between fishing trips........

To add to that ... I also use Cals and very lightly lube my carbon washers. After 25 years Cals has never let me down!

Blow torch and candle wax can do wonders. I've found it does better than some pentrating oils.
@StevenMiller-cx4rr5 ай бұрын
The absolute best penetrating oil, I found after a lifetime of being in a garage, marine environment, and just around mechanics in general is you take transmission fluid and deluded 5050 with acetone. It is unprecedented in its ability to penetrate. Back when oil and transmission fluid were stored in the cardboard Cans with the metal lids transmission fluid always leaked out I heard somewhere it is one of the hardest fluids to contain so that’s what led me to try it and it works phenomenally. Unfortunately these reels the bearings are stainless steel and the gear is brass, so when you add salt water between two different types of metals, you get electrolysis and it literally whelms sometimes brute forces all we have. Thank you for the comment.
