I grew up a magician's assistant and now I've been a performing magician for 10 years. Can't thank my dad enough for doing it right, making it fun, and prioritizing family over all. Great to hear these wonderful ladies' stories and see their talent.

Hey man, there's no backstage. I mean did he just do the tricks in front of the audience ? And those applause at the end, lol.

As rudimentary and simplistic (and probably obsolete) as these tricks might be, they are a brilliant insight into how magic, and the thought processes behind it, works.

The sound is way out of sync with the video, but still good information. Lance is a true professional. One of the best of all time, back when magic was not performed via video edits (I'm talking to you, Dynamo!)

That must be one of the easiest tricks to do. You could argue its not even magic. All she has do is lie down

Random thoughts from a nobody: 18:39 Teller is basically a cat (though the dharma & Greg episode would have already confirmed that) 32:24 1:13:52 aww the relationship Johnny & Pam have seems so wholesome and genuine. 55:06 56:40 Glad one of the prominent solo-interviewed male magicians isn’t propagating sexist bullshit “women magician is an oxymoron, cause ‘magician’ is a male role” “[women] bring the softness, the kindness, the non-analytical” WTF dudes 57:02 yeah I don’t think sexism is charming… really showing the age of this documentary Also don’t have a specific time stamp, but damn the racist orientalism is real. Glad we’re *mostly* past that shit

Here is a great trick. Put your beautiful assistant into a 6'1" X 4'2" box made of 62.4% aluminum and 37.6% ionic metalflux. As soon as she is hidden, psychically move her into the 8th dimension. Then from the 14th dimension, move a Psionic Blasserplex into the box. Open the box and the audience is astonished! And then they are dissolved and eaten! Great fun every time. Since the wallets and purses are left behind, very profitable also.

How does this - as the magician/s suggest - thematically portray cutting into fear? They don't cut something frightening in half. they just cut some woman in half.
