Ok, so I spent 25 years in the army-about half in the 82nd Airborne in the infantry, and the other half in SF. Guess what, infantry units in the 82nd were also mostly white, and there was no swim test. If we marched past a quartermaster, signal, or transportation unit they would frequently be mostly black. Why? I don’t know, but I think most people that enlist for the support MOSes are looking for a steady job (regardless of race), but I think the guys that go infantry, airborne, SF, etc are looking to test themselves. They’re looking for adventure. As for the swimming-I think it goes back to Africa. I spent 6 mos in the Congo back in 2012, and found that Africans don’t swim. When you consider that everything in African rivers wants to kill you and eat you it makes complete sense. We were warned not to go down by the river at night because the meremen would get us. I’m not kidding.

Well Dude, we never even fired a weapon in Boot camp. The firing range was condemned in 1991. I fired an M14 for the salute at a funeral, 3 blank rounds, and I think that’s it. For watch they would send us out on the flight line with a grey plastic flashlight, a nightstick, and a radio; and I used to go out there O’Dark Thirty like an idiot, until I realized that I should just shine the flashlight in the direction of the aircraft and see if they were still there. If not, call base security, because they had guns.

I served in the Marines from 2005 to 2009 and wanted to try SF at the age of 32 in 2019. I got rejected by a black SFC because of a domestic that I caught 3 years prior that wasn't disqualified by the Launtenburg amendment. He could have put in waivers but he was a B. A. N. about it. It wound up being a good thing because after that, series of events followed that doesn't really need discussing. I wasn't going to comply with those mandates. I plan to try again after I get myself back together before I turn 40 in 3 years.

my son is heading into AIRR, at RTC right now. He was Delayed Entry and got to train several days a week to prepare. (Warrior Challenge Program) he met Special Ops physical requirements there.

For me it was just awareness. By the time I knew about anything special warfare and special operations, I had already graduated college, had bad knees and ankles from sports, and already in a bad job. Had I known about being a CRO or STO before hand, I would have skipped sports and went into AFROCT or straight to officer school after college.

aircrew class 8243 . back then you became a swimmer depending on your class standing after "A" school. I remember my master chief telling me since I was going to an H-2 squadron, I would have to go to rescue swimmer school. I looked at the Master chief and asked " what the f_ _ _ is a rescue swimmer?" He laughed and told me " You'll find out." While trying to hold back his laughter. I had the pilots lower me on the hoist into the Caribbean chasing after a mail bag. I guess you can count that as a rescue.
