Saddle fitting sure is the most under communicated discussion! Thank you Carmi!

You must have been a teacher. Excellent job of verbal communication (on all the videos I have watched)

But she's not riding the flapless saddle in this video 😕

Sorry to miss your comment, Killian! Alessandra is using the removable "Skinny Flaps", which are mandatory for showing. But the saddle is definitely flapless!

When you start you follow the last rib up and then you say "come forward two". Two fingers or two ribs please? thanks!

This was so helpful! my horse has a bad problem with her shoulders being symmetrical

my horse bulges in the shoulder girdle and I've had issues with her saddle being pushed far back as we ride to clear the bulge. will a wider saddle help her shoulder glide underneath the saddle panals?

Hi Raven - the panels are not actually "loosened" or "tightened"; this is primarily the responsibility of the tree being the proper size. Instead, the panels are contoured to fit the horse, which might involve curving around portions of anatomy, most commonly the shoulder. The videos are numbered to give a rough sequence. Each one is quite short and extremely focused on a specific topic; they are designed to introduce the saddle and basic fitting concepts, but aren't meant for trouble-shooting.

Simsalabim ("Simba") is pushing 17.3; we used him in this video because the girthing area is easier to see...being so high off the ground! Glad you enjoyed him ;-)

When we give our saddles out for a two-week free test, we keep the saddle looking brand new by requiring our evaluators to keep the stirrups under the flap. Some people choose to keep their leathers like this even after they buy the saddle in order to avoid wear on the flaps (some people don't like the feeling - this is an individual choice).
