HI I have a question. What would you say is a good price range for purchasing a cello that is of good quality? I know that it is very subjective but is there an estimate on good quality cellos? BRAVO como siempre
@CCROISEC25 күн бұрын
Hi! It really depends what you want: a good quality modern instrument you can get for 20-40k, a great old Italian (18th/19th century) if you are lucky from 250k, an old French one from maybe 70k but it all depends how the conditions are and how it’s certified and so on, so don’t take my price ranges too seriously, it all it very complicated!

Amazing. I think it's one of the hardest of the 12 to make "musical" - at least, up until the end when it's a bit of a relief to be able to swing the bow. I enjoy your play as always. Thanks for recording and posting these! ☺

With its Rock'n'Roll and jazz elements, this concerto reminds me a bit of Friedrich Gulda's cello concerto. I like it very much. These kinds of compositions help to bring modern classical music to a wider audience. Well done!

After watching you perform in Cape Town last week and being fascinated by the encore that you put on after your excelent performance of Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto No. 1 I have found all your own compositions. I am most impressed with what you can make a cello do a perhaps you should be performing one of your own works rather than Saint-Saëns the next time...

1:03 I have to say that the interpretation starting from here is actually quite clever, I like the approach that you attempt to stress a sweet melody within a bunch of bouncing notes😊 It is a good reference for me to practice this part😊😊

Very nicely played, but why are you using a Baroque bow in conjunction with a over-all modern 4-string cello, wich requires thump position (contrary to a 5-string-instrument) for this piece and has also an endpin?
@CCROISEC7 ай бұрын
I was using a Guarneri filius Andreae cello from 1721 with raw gut strings and baroque bow by Walter Barbiero… I change a lot between baroque and modern set-up and don’t take out the endpin since it doesn’t change anything sound wise …
@trabouliste10377 ай бұрын
@@CCROISEC I only saw the long fretboard, which I guess isn‘t original in any sense, the angle may be more baroque, but thump positions aren‘t. I am so interested in this, because I am training this piece on a modern five string Luis and Clark carbon fiber cello with modern bow but in 415 tune… I‘ve tried gut strings but they didn’t match with my cello soundwise, don‘t know, if I used the wrong gut strings or it is a problem determinated by design.
@CCROISEC7 ай бұрын
@@trabouliste1037 yes that’s right! The fingerboard is not original at all and if it would be completely baroque it would be with a straight (to the corpus) neck… which puts less tension then on the cello, but of course is quite a huge difference in playing (I used this complete baroque set up in my Bach Suites recording…) but in my opinion what makes the biggest difference is: gut strings, baroque bow and no endpin… I personally like that combination… I used Aquila gut strings for A and D and gut and silver wound pirastro chorda for G and C!
