Ireland’s head coach and forwards/lineout coach playing each other! Along with greats like BOD, Wilkinson, et al. Small world it is.

Fantastic although the fa cup final. By then was on the turn not the 80s .but still decent n compared to now different world obviously. Not live on both channels n not terraced at both ends 100k crowd but million times better than now, no ridiculous singers of anthems, n more important. No cringing music at the final whistle. Just spontaneous fans celebrating 😊

I still love it now, and my kids here in Australia love it. It's still well loved globally even if the UK doesn't agree. I haven't missed one (except this one actually, I watched it on delay in Germany) since 1985. But I do get what you mean. By 1990 it wasn't quite as special with only the BBC showing it. Another change was bringing in the advertising hoardings to just behind the goals. Then the Euro 96 nets replacing the old Wembley nets starting with the 97 final. Plus too many teams winning the double. Then Man Utd boycotting it in 2000. But it's still special to me. I can name every winner since 1872. 1872 that is. The first.

Brian Moore LEGEND.

Brian Moore is the worst I have ever heard. If he knows so much,why did he not become a referee. I would not wish to meet him,because I have no time for people who think they know everything,but know nothing in the end.

oh how of that era it was, (we hope!!?) - the BBC commentator saying - re. the historic significance - ..'...and I apologise, he said, 'if some of you on the MAINLAND think we are over-egging it...' Yes indeed, and oh dear, I'm sure the folly of his use of the word 'mainland' was pointed out to him afterwards. I'm old enough to remember, how so many good English visiting Ireland had the strangest imagination, that they were visiting some small island like the Isle-of-Man, off their so-called 'mainland!' How innocent. And how odd too, for the BBC commentator to say '...an afternoon when Ireland could say goodbye to the past and hello to the future!!.' Mon Dieu!! As if Britain had nothing to say at all. Apart from it being a great sporting occasion, it was an education to the British of their own history, of which as Brian Ashton admitted they were utterly ignorant. Today, 2024 the teams meet again in Twickenham, ...how far we've come

My family had a tea rooms in Wicklow and we had many English visitors every summer. Very few of them knew that there was border into a different country less than 100 km away. There is a book about the McGuirk women who ran the tea rooms and famous people who had tea there: Tales From A Wicklow Tea Rooms by Michael Fewer.

All the emotion coming back. I watched this in France with Irish friends and we were so worried there might be issues but what a great day for our 2 nations. And what a result

FYI - back in the early 70s when 'The Troubles' were in full swing, England were the only team that came over to play us. The Scots and Welsh refused. English Rugby single-handedly saved Irish Rugby from going under. If you're interested, the documentary is called "The Team That Turned Up". Great watch.
Cant think of better prep for tomorrow's game. Gona be a cauldron baiiiii

I recognise without name the voice of the commentator. The guy supporting him is so biased against ireland that it's not funny. The high tackle as an example should have been a red card. The support commentator started yacking about retaliation when there was none. There's nothing about just getting away with a red card
@uwanttono40124 ай бұрын
Thanks for uploading as I never saw the game back then. Horgan the Irish right winger, should definitely have got a red card for that dreadful forearm into Strettle's throat!

What an occasion and atmosphere that was inside Croke Park, I miss the commentary of Eddie Butler and watching childhood heroes of mine like O'Gara, D'Arcy, O'Driscoll and O'Connell. Loved watching the fa cup when younger, even if your team didn’t get to Wembley and me being a Man City fan we didn’t.😂😂. But it was a day nearly the whole country looked forward to. Kick off 3pm Saturday but it started around 9 am cameras outside the teams hotels, chatting with the managers and the players, showing how they got through each round, interviewing the players on the coaches seeing players playing cards and smoking. Watching the fans go up Wembley way. Sure lots of fans will remember going to matches and getting a sheet for tokens you got in programmes for each game you attended, but you also had to go to some central league games as you got a token at a couple of them. Try to fill the sheet so you were eligible to try get a ticket for Wembley if your team got there.. those were the days..
