Nigel, I notice you use black training pots...I heard that black pots get really hot and can kill your roots...Obviously not because you seem to use them all the time...Can you way in on this topic for outside full sun trees...Thanks...
@TheBonsaiZone17 сағат бұрын
Black pots can definitely get really hot in the sun. Frequent watering will help keep the trees cool and if the tree has a good canopy, it helps shade the pot. I have been using tinfoil on the top of the pot to help keep it cool!

Great video Nigel! Raccoons now Eh?! Watch they don't go after the other animals. They are a problem here getting into chicken coops and rabbit hutches. I have never let my Adenium go dormant.Mine are still in the house, night temperatures still 6 to 8C at night.

Thanks Marysol, my wife is careful to keep her birds safe. We had a few cool nights here too, but now it's more like 18 C at night!

Awe Kittens! Perhaps there is a cat specific rescue that can come and get them. They will spade and neuter mom and kittens before rehoming them. People must apply and be screened before adopting. We have some wonderful rescues here. I water my trees twice a day if needed, but only on days I work. I water when needed when I'm not working. Your book shouldn't be one book Nigel. It really should be a series. Each book in the series can be dedicated to a type of trees. Say, Hardy evergreens, a set of styles or just Ficus. You'll have to list all the trees you want to talk about and group them together. That will allow you to talk more in depth about each tree type than you could cramming them all into one book. Jay showed me pictures of the open house. Looked like it was a wonderful place!

Why not try repotting them all, and when you do, you vary the growing medium to drain more water off below the desert rose, and have a medium that retains more water in the areas with the plants that need it. you could even modify the pot to have more drainage holes under the area where you plan on planting the rose.

Nigel, I've noticed while using Safe-T-Zorb, thaat it breaks down into a mush in about 2 years, and creates issues with drainage. have you dealt with this also?

I have the same exact HAWS watering can as you. Same rose and everything. I feel like mine comes out a lot faster and harder than yours does though. I wish it was a little more gentle, but I can pretty much only use it on medium to larger sized trees and trees that are very established in their pots. weird. I always look forward to the succulent updates!

the fact that even you have trouble with desert roses cheers me up after mine got horrible root rot and all I could do is get cuttings off of it… I’m not watering them until they look like they desperately need it!
