Hi Matt, You asked to post about power tools. According to Google Gemini, "In 1920, some power tools existed, but they were not widely adopted in residential construction. Most framing lumber was still cut by hand using saws and other hand tools. There were Sawmills and Portable circular saws. some tools were available to aid in the process, the majority of residential framing construction in California in 1920 would still have been done by hand."

Matt, my house was built in 1895 as a 12 by 25 home. There have been 30 owners by the titles, and at least 8 remodels which I did 2. It's now a 25 by 25, 1 & 1/2 story 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath. It was expanded several decades ago. But very little is level plum or flush. But it's paid for. South Dakota.

On the slack in electrical, would you do it through the studs to prevent drywallers damage or homeowners damage since it’s sitting on the face of the stud?

Most american thing to deliver whole timber not logs, and also handle them with an eightpair instead of a smaller loader.

Excellent description of framing a house. When you get done swinging a hammer you've got a future in teaching

Should've removed stud before nailing the header
@JonathanPerez-mk3hp2 күн бұрын
@6:22 there is a very easy fix. You can cut the top plate, run your header flush with the top plate, then provide straps on each end. The top plate is dragging some load to hopefully a lateral system. RFI needed either way. The 4x12 might just be a typical header call out. What’s the span of the roof framing?

5:30 😂there are better ways… a pencil actually works very well. Sheath the house mark openings as you go and then a paddle bit and router make short neat work of it
@MattBangsWood3 күн бұрын
Pencil is for hacks. I prefer bashing it with a hammer, that way my partially blind eyesight can see it.

I'm pretty sure a built up header of 2 2x's and plywood is stronger than a solid 4x6, so how comes they don't call out for those?

I hang onto every word cause I also build in the 805. Very grateful to have someone local sharing info on YT because construction changes so much based on location.

Matt if your for real that might have to get rid of the 7.3L cause of California emissions I’d gladly come buy it!! Can’t find trucks like that up here in On and I’d love to have 1 again
@MattBangsWood3 күн бұрын
It’s up for sale right now, buying a new pick up as we speak. California is getting tight on things like that. Shoot me an email, it’s a beautiful truck inside and out. Will have it fully serviced before sale.. [email protected]
