Well said Janet. Having an outcome of pursuing mastery keeps us healthily challenged and nudges us towards excellence. It is for us, not for anybody else :)

Would it be possible to encourage his joy journal to go another layer deeper, examine what is the essence of the activity that brings joy. Examine his own attitudes, and beliefs about what joy means to him.

I’m not gonna ‘say’ he has adhd but his struggles are very much in line with the struggles ppl with adhd have on a daily basis. All his issues have well researched adhd tools that could have helped him, like habit stacking is something that would improve his evening routine.

I watched many of the coaching demo videos published on KZfaq, but basically every video is about two coaches talking this is kind of weird

Role plays are great learning tools for participants, often less so for observers watching on video, and I think this one demonstrates that. Kudos for putting your work online, that takes courage, so well done. My thoughts on this video is that it is more of a demo of a questioning style than a ncoaching style, perhaps because of the limitation of time. The coach led the session and at one point, the client, after raising his awareness of the ‘shoulds’ he was experiencing, apologised to the coach for wanting to stay on that topic when the coach was moving on. Clearly the client was experiencing emotional dissonance about his decision that was raising uncomfortable feelings and thoughts. There was opportunity for some exploration of these and for the client to leave with some insight into what he has been experiencing, instead the coach gave him relief by getting him off the hook of returning to his country, and family of origin. I suspect a 10 min discussion with mates at the pub could have achieved the same. I’m not suggesting the coach has not done a good job, rather that this is not such a good video to post as a demonstration of Master level coaching

It seems like there was a deeper emotional level that could have been reached to identify what if any emotional yearning is at play here. The session really remains on a pretty surface level about his intellectual ideas of what he expects this next season will be like or what his appropriate role is, but not the why that is driving him to consider this. I wonder if identifying that emotional desire would have helped him move more quickly to the meat of his relationship with his parents. Because the action point he came to was not about asserting his need to clarify what the new relationship looks like, in my read it was about being in connection with his parents so that he can really move forward with emotional intelligence and curiosity about where everyone is at.

Love the way Lyssa coaches...the way she explores and different things that tries with the coachee (even the breathing...ok, it did not give him any insight, it's a road she tried...and I love that...)

Interesting and I am appreciative. I saw the connection about the legacy as the female or feminine part of the family. I guess as a coach I might have asked what does your son know about this legacy? Then again on the particulars of the mishap (or expectation being unmet) both mother and son may have been worn from teh day and not been their best selves.

This was amazing and really so helpful. I appreciate seeing in action so many skills I learned during my TRLC certification cohort. This master coach really guided this session and guided this client so beautifully by listening, NOT giving advice or answers but rather, guiding him to uncover his assets and capacity. She started with rapport and a bit of regulation (breathing) and, I have so many great AFQ's from this session. Thank you so much!

Thanks Janet! There is a halo effect around someone from the C suite, and it definitely intimidates me sometimes! When I think about the breadth of experience and wisdom that often comes from a no-nonsense high-level exec, it's another layer of consideration for sure!
