Whether Horan's goal or not the fact was/ is at the time Laois could push Offaly all the way but couldn't do it against any other team.

It was a shame Loais hurlers didn't build from that, the following years, because Loais always had great hurlers and of course offaly had one their first ever All-Ireland in 1981.

We can say all we want about standards of football through different generations, but one thing is for sure, this was a time when men were men. In Laois we don't have much, but we have this day and even the mention of it brings a smile!

I was at the game and Laois got 2 penalties , especially the last one and they were the softest I have ever seen.

And Pat Carolls equaliser. Was at that game. Poor auld Christy King. Jaysus he had an awful day. Worse than Dinny Wynne in the football. Mick Kennedy was gone after this and the best fullback of the 80's in Eugene Coughlan replaced him.

Pity their full back lines tactics also changed for that years Leinster final against Wexford, one of them almost decapitated Tony Doran who ended up concussed in hospital

That was Pat Fluery. Tony Doran was too brave for his own good, putting his head where you wouldn't even put your hand. Great full forward though.
