@russelblackwell6041 hey Russ, I think they have a place in certain cars, but hopefully this one will be an exception for you haha, long term it's going to be properly painted, but for now the easy way is to do faded paint, I think it should look good for the time being, cheers buddy!

The old truck is slowly coming together eh twisty, I was looking at the tub thinking how to deal with the gap and my idea, no good now, was to turn it around and cut off the front and back and weld them back on the opposite ends, then take some out of the middle. Your idea was probably easier. My other idea would be to lift the front clip up, at the front, a bit to level it out. Anyway it looks bloody good from 6000k's away haha. Cheers from NZ, Phil.

@TwistedMetalCustoms
@TwistedMetalCustoms 10 күн бұрын
Hi MrFall! thanks for the comment, total cost of materials wasn't much at all.. i think about 200 dollars in metal, to get the folds done by a fab workshop was about $200, but the real cost is time.. if you are semi confident in your knowledge on rust repairs then i say go for it! its a good learning curve, otherwise to get someone to repair it, it will cost thousands mate

Your right about 100% argon for aluminium, also for stainless steel. The impurities in the gas gets into your weld. As for mild steel the co2 allows more heat penetration.

@tfoot22 hey mate, honestly for 450 bucks it's not bad. it bends my 1mm sheet steel decently, any thicker and it does the same as you said, it's handy for small rust repairs, and doesnt flex too much

Chemtech Fertan is a new generation, safe, non-toxic and non-flammable rust converter that penetrates deep into rust to convert it into ferric tannate and also creates a zinc phosphate layer deep below the rust surface to protect the base metal. Chemtech Fertan treated metal can be overcoated immediately or alternatively provide a “painting window” giving total protection for up to six months. Continuous protection can be achieved with regular retreatment and provides an alternative to sand blasting and painting. Non toxic & Non Flammable Provides an ideal painting surface. Stole it direct from the website haha.

Nice to see an Aussie doing really informative vids like this. I had no idea you could still get replacement panels for something like this either and why I have always been hesitant to invest in a such a project. I kinda thought most stuff was remade manually by a skilled panel beater from sheet metal. Where do the panels come from? This really has opened my eyes for a future project where I might not need to buy multiple cars to make a good one. Thanks for all the work and effort to make this video, I'll be watching the series from the start now. You legend.

@beano9343 hey Beano! So glad you found my content! Yeah mate you can get most rust repair panels from multiple companies now days, I used "Rare Spares" company for these panels, they offer pretty much everything for restorations, some things are better than other things.. but generally they offer decent stuff. That's awesome mate that you might have more viable avenue now to do some restorations! It's my pleasure mate, comments like these are the "warm and fuzzy's" I get when I can help someone in some sort of way, thanks for the comment and the follow 👍 🍻 -Twisty

If you can get a cheap set of these heads for the clevo quote ``` stock 4V intake and mild CJ cam, the Cleveland produced 359 horsepower at 5,700 rpm and 372 ft.-lbs. of torque at 3,800 rpm. After our baseline, we replaced the Elgin CJ cam and 4V intake with a Comp XE284H cam and Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap intake. The Comp Cam offered a .584/.588 lift split, a 240/246-degree duration split and 110-degree LSA. The Edelbrock intake was actually designed for the smaller-port, aluminum Edelbrock heads, but worked well on the larger 4V heads. pushing the peaks to 452 horsepower and 412 ft.-lbs. of torque. Given the flow rates, even this modified 351C was just scratching the surface of what OG 4V heads will support! ``` So thats what it would take to get to the 450 HP.. No turbo needed.. Now cost well that's the problem.. 4V stands for “four-venturi”, not for “four-valve” So 4BBL carb heads which you can get more easy in australia then the USA .. Anyways It's possible to do but you got to way turbo cost vs this is what you need to look into..Nothing like a non turbo clevo in the 400 range lol
@TwistedMetalCustoms
@TwistedMetalCustoms Ай бұрын
@IanMicheal thanks Ian for the info! Exactly what I was after, that's decent HP and I reckon I'll be back in a chance to win with this combo, I have no idea what heads are on the 351 currently, any easy way to tell? Doesn't it have a 4 in the corner or something? I can't remember haha

Hey mate recently found your channel and you are doing some very good instructional content. Just a thought with that shed vibration- if you have a bit of left over CarBuilders sound deadener or aimilar lying around you can stick that on the offending panels in the area you think is the worst culprit and it will dull the sound right down and get rid of that high frequency vibration I reckon. Might be worth a try. Cheers mate

Is it true that you have to overlap the repair section to existing in Australia
@TwistedMetalCustoms
@TwistedMetalCustoms Ай бұрын
Hi Lyel, I think it's depending on state to state, I know WHEN you do an overlap repair it needs to be a certain lap amount (15mm??) But not 100% sure depending on what state. Maybe it's talking about if you are replacing whole sections that uses the spot welds and lap joins on all sides. I am not doing lap joins, terrible for future rust, I'll just go through engineering if need be to get it signed off in worst case. (Or do the repair well enough so it's not noticeable haha)
