What is idea of herringbone strutting over noggins?
@stevehallam6495

Good question. Benefits are that you can use scrag ends of timber like cheap roof lath rather than buying extra lengths of joist. Structurally herringbone strutting is superior to solid bridging as it spreads loads to adjacent joists with much less chance of squeaking. It also allows you to drag cables for downlights etc easier as there is no 'solid' block in the way particularly in a finished property.

@@stevehallam6495 Is correct, this method is ideal for services to run through, where as a noggin made out of the same joist material, holes would have o be drilled for services. note. if you are using noggins, it's good practice to make that noggin 10mm-20mm smaller so if there is a slight twist it doesn't effect the floor coverings or plasterboards. once you mark one you can use that as a template. Thank you both for the comments, means a lot.
