Think about the questions that you can at least use to filter things, things that people wouldn’t really lie about, things that dictate people’s preferences. Engage in sincere istikhara. Involve family members of the opposite gender. ESPECIALLY for women, involve your male family members if you can!! Men know men, they can vet another man very well in a reasonable manner.
