The argument against vests is exclusively old guys who spend their entire time in the office and anti law enforcement activists. No real cops or citizens have a problem with outer vest carriers.

This is a clash between the young Pepsi generation and those who grew up policing in the old school way of being a cop. The best way to handle this is instituting a policy on how you can equip or set up your vest. Many old school chiefs and sheriff’s are not the biggest fans of tac vest. They are still caught up with the look and appearance of how their troops look when working. I worked for a very old fashioned sheriff and he didn’t like us wearing pants with side pockets. Our uniforms had a side stripe and he made it clear that stripe was staying. Eventually he allowed us to wear uniform pants with the pockets. Even now our uniforms are slowly transitioning away from the old side stripe. I see both sides of the issue but it’s not an issue. Bottom line you work for the sheriff or police chief and the uniform and the officers that wear it are extensions of those administrators. You serve or work at their discretion.

Tucson Police has a lot of challenges they need to overcome, but Kasmar has been the first chief in recent times to recognize and push for meaningful change in the department. Honestly I wish he was able to get more support from our local government to attract more officers. This would allow for more calls for service to be responded to in a timely manner even if they’re low priority calls.

I don’t trust him. I support the few Officers we have left. Other than that, I’m gonna leave Tucson before it turns into Seattle or Los Angeles.
