Could be great for sea kayaking or canoeing expeditions where a bit of extra weight isn't a problem.

Massive disappointment. Use anything other than the LOWA 3-folded t-shirt insoles, and your foot goes from having MAYBE 1 inch of Back Heel space, to 3/4 inch of heel space with any sort of quality insole. Merrell, Red Wings, and another brand I've rubbed the name off and forgot, none solve the issue. IMMEDIATE red heels, and anything other than a small hike results in bad rubbing and blisters. The bottom of the boot starts WAY, WAY, WAY too high up compared to where it starts to hold your ankle. They also designed the shoe to be so thin at the toe box that the reinforced left, and right side for the laces leave the weaker middle to cram and fold directly into your toes. Then, send it out with an insole so cheap it feels like you're walking on hardened rubber. Because you are. This won't be solved without significant wear, because the quality is high, and these areas have TWO LAYERS of leather to soften on the outer sides.

Can I ask a really noob question: If the igniter breaks, can you light the burner with matches or a lighter?

Very comfortable, but the heel is slipping, i have very narrow heel. A little sad because the sizing for my foot size was perfect. Should i go for merrel moab 3 instead, for padded heel (assuming more tight heel)

Anyone ever tried wrapping around the corner post from the top and then going down and around it and then heading across and up to the next eyelet. I haven’t tried it extensively but it seems to work at least as good as the way it’s “supposed” to be laced. Am I crazy?

My biggest issue with the windburner is if your cup breaks or you lose it you cant just stop in whatever town your near and get whatever new boiling cup you can find, you have to get windburner products for it. Honestly unless you really need that anti wind feature the pocket rocket deluxe with a toaks 1100ml pot/pan combo is the way to go.

I am a Sea To Summit fan; they are from my hometown, but I have owned the Ether light XT for 3 years. It feels like a beautiful cloud, but it now has a slow leak. I have discovered that this is a common issue with around 30 sleeps which is nothing. When I contacted Sea To Summit and the store, they refunded me without any questions. I have heard some people who love the pad are on their fourth replacement due to the same issue. You can do your own research, you will see for yourself.

The canister used upside down allows the liquid butane to flow liquid instead of the vapors right side up. So that the stove works as intended. Canisters of butane, isobutane and propane are not as volatile as white gas liquid fuels. Gas canisters fail at elevation mainly because it's colder. And colder air affects the density of the fuel which affects the fuel delivery (it chokes/freezes).

It's mentioned these suitable for backpacking. It should be noted lowa themselves only rate this to 9kg. Really only a day hiking boot. I have a pair an love them but they are not gor multi day hiking with a heavier pack.

Firstly it looks like the igniter needs adjustment on the Soto, carefully adjusting the bit where the spark comes off it needs to be in the right position like a vehicle spark plug. Secondly the Soto lasts and extra 30 min on a small gas canister that’s a huge amount on a multi day trip. Third the pot stand can be left on yes it will take up more space, though when removing it I have never lost it new ones can be purchased, I bought the 3 pronged one which makes it lighter than the MSR.

I was given one that I will take on a road trip as backup. Great review, thanks. I suspect the smokeyness is because you are burning pine not hardwood but we use what we have as long as it's dry and not green. Can't wait to test mine out.thanks again

You look like you've never used one of these before, and the stove is brand new.... Dont think ill be lending any weight to anything said in this video. Grass is dry, put it on the tree stump. Better for your back and lowers the fire risk. Pump goes in easiest filter first. Lube the tip of the fuel hose before putting it in the pump so you dont damage the oring. Spit on it if you dont have the oring oil. (Official MSR manual advice) Your fuel line is in wrong. Turn it 90degrees so the hook sits in the saddle. Light the wick through the hole on the side next to the wick. Its easier, especially if its windy and avoids burning your fingers if you didnt bring a great big kitchen lighter like yours.

This is easily the best comparison I've ever seen. It's interesting to see the delta between the Flash and Minimo is so much smaller than Jetboil claims. I was worried about giving up significant boil time in exchange for heat control but seeing that wasn't the case this really cements the Minimo as the best option, for me.

I bought a pair of these Salomon's x ultra 4 and the stitching started coming apart after 5 months then it started coming apart even more and developed a tear , Salomon refused to honour it's two year warranty and so after buying several pairs of Salomon previously I made a determination never to buy anything from Salomon ever again. I've just bought the la Sportiva Tx 5 to replace my Salomon x ultra and it's way better than the Salomon. Needless to say I've been extremely disappointed by Salomon customer services Mlungisi Mazibuko from Salomon customer services in KwaZulu-Natal , south Africa.

From Australia: I'm so disappointing with KEEN leather shoes and also similar mid hiking boots. The sole do not last (12 months) even if not used on stony/rocky/hill country and I'm very close to 71 years. Shoe testers/reviewers need to come up with a sole test chart.

Does anybody know a manufacturer who make light weight hiking shoe with natural shaped toebox? With a little bit more space for the big toe to spread while walking? I really liked Adidas Free Hiker gtx version 1. Unfortunatelly they made the toebox narrower for the version 2 so there went that.

Toebox is too narrow. Why can't they make a hiking shoe which has some space for big toe to spread while walking? It is not natural for toes to be all squeezed together.

I have used that stove for cooking ALL my meals for not just months but years or my life. It’s a jet engine. And that’s really the only complaint one could have about it. It’s loud. It truly sounds like an engine. But you can really “tweak” the valves on the pumps to “simmer” things with it… or just crank it all the way up to boil water in a hurry. With a little work to change the jet opening (the part that “sprays the fuel”) it can burn almost anything including Diesel (or military JP8). They also make a special “arctic pump” that has different orings and is a different color meant for use in extreme cold. At very very cold temps the standard pump can have issues with the orings failing so they made the arctic pump. I just use the arctic pump all the time (hot or cold). They also make a “stand” that is meant for using the stove in deep snow. They are like “snowshoes” for the legs. They also sell different service and maintenance kits for it and you can replace or rebuild almost all of the components that might fail (orings, needles on the shaker pin, lubricants, nozzles, etc. if you’re using a lot of fuel.. you can buy the Coleman fuel in gallon cans. I usually buy multiple at a time and dump them into a 20 gallon jerry can. You can just use unleaded gas in a pinch but it takes changing the nozzle and it’s dirty. That’s another trick. I took the bottom of a coffee can (old metal one) and used a pair of tin snips to cut a metal “circle” of light gauge steel. The MSR XGK is such a beast it will heat that metal up to red hot in no time and you can place your pots on that. All the “soot” is caught on the bottom of the steel circle… or the majority of it. MSR also sells some “pot accesories” that include an ingenious method of strapping a corrugated grid around a standard pot. This metal corrugated piece of metal keeps the heat next to the metal of the cooking vessel. Hard to explain but it drasticallly inceases boils times. Even more than using the reflective metal wind screen and the reflective base piece of heavy foil. If you are cooking all your meals for months on it and are using a great deal of fuel and want to get cooking done asap… there are many things that can improve efficiency. It’s the best “expedition” stove in the world in my opinion. MSR really knocked the design of this stove out of the park. I have been using mine for over a decade and the only real issue I had was to call MSR to replace the “fireproof” absorbent cloth that’s under the burner cup. Great video.

I love this shoe. I love that it feels so supportive without being too rigid. But I love most that it feels like it cradles my narrow feet in place. (I also use thin orthodics in them.) I do feel like I need ankle support for some of my hikes. But, I can't seem to find a mid or high boot that fits like this one does. Would you have any recommendations??

When you use additional cookware with the Minimo, you pack the pot stand with said cookware. Minimo does it all. Never had an issue with its weight or space. If you were to buy only one and intend to cook, then get the Minimo. If you just want to boil water, then get whatever the hell you want. lol. Good Review!
