Good d News. A ceramic coating that is NASA tested and rated that bonds to steel and prevents corrosion permanently is coming to the marine industry. Currently being used by major oil companies to prevent corrosion. Dries in 5 minutes antimicrobial and fire resistant to thousand degrees

Hey Pete. The boat got cut up two months ago. An excavator went down the side of it with a log grab on the attachment and tore a hole in the side. It was a bit too much that I wanted to repair. I had to draw a line somewhere. It took me a month or two to decide to do it and I just haven’t been able to find the time to tell the story. I’ve got a house build going on, bee hives to maintain and a new job so things have been hectic to say the least. When I get the time I’ll put a story up. It’s just been something I haven’t been able to get to. I had best make the time soon though. There’s been a few asking. Cheers Paul.

Nice work mate, I’m just about to start blasting on my 40’ steel motor sailer build, i trialed with my current pressure washer just out of interest which is way to small (5hp) yet it doesn’t not a bad job, I get an 18LPM pressure washer in a few weeks, Awesome work and thank you for sharing, well done and all the best with your boat mate.

I’m all good here John. Regretfully though the boat was damaged back in March when it got hit by a machine and rather than repair it I decided to scrap it. I was already contemplating giving up on the project due to the distance involved in getting there to work on it. I drove up a couple of times to work on it only to have to turn around and drive home without doing anything to it. That was kind of the turning point. I have however thrown myself in head first helping my brother with his bees. He’s decided to go all in with the varroa mite problem and is producing bee packages. We’ve started a KZfaq channel called thank you honeybee. It’s more to create awareness for his business and to keep me busy.

Hi, I would like to know how you got the hull to look so smooth, steel hulls rarely look that smooth. Did you use a fairing compound at all or was the boat just that well built that it ended up perfectly smooth ?

Drag the gun the same as a normal electrode, the wire your using is not really suitable for boat building, use Lincoln NR203MP or Lincoln NR233 but you will need an extraction fan because the fumes are toxic the NR203 is gooey if you have poor fit up because it bridges quite wide gaps, the process is so much faster than using electrodes.

Are you going for dry or wet exhaust? Only asking cos if you stick with the Automotive/Fire-pump dry exhaust manifold esp on a turbo engine its going to build up a lot of temperature in the engine room under the constant load from a propellor esp with no engine driven fan to push air around compared to a watercooled marine manifold.
@TheadventuresofSherylandPaul
@TheadventuresofSherylandPaul Жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure a dry exhaust at this stage. Both systems have their pro's and cons. A couple of 24 volt blowers will keep the temperatures down and the air intake for the engine being located in the engine room air intake vent will help also. The genset will be wet exhaust though.

@TheadventuresofSherylandPaul
@TheadventuresofSherylandPaul Жыл бұрын
Hi Douger. Thanks for subscribing. The engine that is going into the boat won't be touched, but the one that has the destroyed valve will be rebuilt by (hopefully) my son. He is a heavy diesel fitter. plus it will make for a great project for us to work on together. I have just finished rebuilding (well almost) an engine for the air compressor that spat a leg out of bed. I'm not really going to go into too much detail about building engines. I will cover some bits and pieces but not in huge detail. So the engine history is that they were pumps for a backup fire system. They were sister units and one of them spat a valve and they decided to pull both of them out and replace them with Deutz engines. That's about all I know. Dangar Stu has the best Channel. When you see the sand blasting come into the project I will show everyone just how his channel had inspired me to do what we have done. Again, Thanks for Subscribing. Lots to come in the next six months and some.

Hey Paul, i dont know what kind of gearbox youre having but: ever thought about installing a python-drive or any other homokinetic drive between gearbox and propellershaft? Makes a lot of things easier, like possibly leaving the floor where it is... and reducing noise while driving. Whatever solution youre going for - thanks for letting us join you on your way to the water.

I had considered it originally, but In the wheel house I want to put a seat along the rear wall so it will make it difficult to get to the engine. I am going to be able to put another bunk directly under the wheel house floor by leaving the engine aft. So if ever our kids decide to have grandkids they can have a place to stay. Otherwise they would be sleeping on the lounge in the main saloon. It's a budget build too so anything I don't have to pay for I wont. The floor is rusted out in that area of the boat and the intention was always to replace it.
