I'm always amazed how you make your builds look so good with only a few variations in blocks. Great work, as always!

Love this build! It's big enough to work on its own, but small enough to be manageable. Very well done. And I appreciate when you differentiate between what is and isn't historically accurate in the build; it lends you a great deal of credibility. A quick note on glass: there is evidence in some Old Norse (so Early Medieval) great halls for glass from as far afield as Egypt or Constantinople. Obviously it wasn't very much glass, but it was impressive at the time. The glass was green and showed traced of natron, which is pretty cool! I think you were right to eschew the glass in a standalone keep, but I could definitely see some storytelling potential in a keep that starts out without any glass, and then as the castle gets further built up around it, the lord and his family buy some Alexandrian or Byzantine (or, for glass closer to home, Venetian) glass to put in their windows and show off their wealth!

I do have to point out aren't the walls a little thin for a fortified building?
@dudieboy2 сағат бұрын
Awesome, thanks! By all means, add 6 more blocks of stone to all the walls inside the keep, haha! This build is modeled on Hedingham Castle in Essex, which has walls 4 meters (blocks) thick. Like I say alot in the video, we have to make a lot of concessions for building in Minecraft... :)

Great build as always. BTW, was wondering how you got the textures at the end to be kind of disjointed and off-center like some blocks are merging with others (like a corner of a brick where it might otherwise be pure stone/cobblestone)

There was a tutorial series done awhile back that was a pretty good compromise between Minecraft and being historically accurate. And while it's great, it takes a lot longer to build and way more resources. I have built it in survival before, just definitely not a "starter" kind of build. This is a great build in that checks the castle build, while being approachable at the early game. Very good tutorial. And definitely going in my playlists for my next world (when 1.21 comes out in a few weeks).

Thank you! Gonna be a hot castle summer! 😆
@ScottE-210 сағат бұрын
@@dudieboy for sure. That summer heat is coming. Something funny about castles like that is, back then you could get through one's business by simply having a hole to dispense from and having a river get rid of it. Since having it cooped up in one spot would make the castle very smelly on one side. At least before we got modern toilets later. Shadiversity talked about stuff like it not too long ago regarding misconceptions with a lot of YT shorts that are kinda auto-generated. It is called "DEBUNKED! - The WORST CASTLE VIDEO I've ever seen" highly recommend it.

As a lifelong castle-appreciator I absolutely love the build. For walls that won't interact with other blocks, I tend to use stone brick fences. They look slimmer, give more visual space and still look the part. It does get a bit finnicky when placing doors or - heavens forbid - trying to mix blocks, but it can make a build feel less '1 x 1 meter everything' in certain sections of corridor.
@cow115 сағат бұрын
20:25 Machicolations are not murder holes. They are similar, but murder holes are the holes in the ceilings typically in entrance ways. While Machicolations are the holes between corbels like you said. The dispensers are much more accurate to what murder holes are used for. So they actually are accurate in functionality. :) The castle looks really good. :)

Good video, but there is one problem with uour auto dropper design. If items lsnd on the last row of hoppers (the ones over the redstone torches), the items wont go through until the front two gst items due to the torches locking the hoppers.
@dudieboy3 күн бұрын
True, and it can be fixed by adding another row of hoppers on top of the droppers (so 2 rows of hoppers). But it's an expensive fix, and during an AFK session the items just pour through the system, anyway. If you've been AFK for a while, it's not like you experience any shortage of materials. :)

Ugh I've been playing Minecraft for absolutely forever since my kiddos had me sit down and play with them and I've always somehow struggled with a spiral staircase, I can cath a quad patient but can't seem to build a spiral staircase without it being.. Too wide I would say. What is wrong with me??? I will now go rebuild the one I had made because mine also has slabs but I did four blocks in the middle it's just so big but this is much simpler and I love it. Thank you very much I appreciate your time and I've subscribed. Also trapdoors.. I never even thought of that! For me that is a game changer haha thank you.
