Personally i like both ideas. They are the perfect organism, so on one remote hostile world they naturally evolved, but will also be inevitable if you seek to create the perfect organism yourself.

I like the natural approach. I did enjoy Prometheus and covenant, but you could erase those movies and the alien franchise wouldn't miss a beat.

I always was under the impression that the xenomorph was a biological weapon created by the engineers that was modified by David to make his own version....?

If they have eyes,they wouldn't be human looking eyes at all.If they can't be seen by infrared,that means their eyes don't give off heat.

There was the wreckage from lv-426 is in the same star system as the one in Prometheus. Though the one on lv-426 is older by 20+ thousand years or greater the elephant man pilot as I still call it died from a face hugger erupting from its chest. A much older specimen from an older space jockey or elephant man. If anything a much more powerful queen mother and a much bigger brood lives on the space jockeys home world in the books. Probably engineered by them from one of their expeditions as a weapon they now hate and despise as they nearly exterminated them, almost as much as they hate the yatja predator species whom they gifted technology to help hunt down and avenge their near extermination by the xenomophs. Which was betrayed again so they found humanity and gifted the Weyland yutani's creator. With the ability to create an android that was so perfect no one would ever suspect it was an android and not a human woman. Namely the Ripley from the story a weapon to help wipe out the xenomoph threat once and for all her innate hatred of them was engineered into her creation. Without them knowing it or even Ripley herself but that's my interpretation of what I know from the vast book, comic book, movie and game knowledge. Just an opinion like assholes everyone has one.

If I remember correctly there was a tomb like structure in Prometheus that already had a Xenomorph depicted on the wall when David arrived on that planet. The mountain also depicted a skull of a Xeno or some way a Xeno that had been grown uncontrollably so I don't think it was ever hinted that David created them. Maybe he revived or reinvented a strain researching the black goo but not really inventing the wheel.

I believe that xenomorphs are natural, David just found a way to get the a species that already exist in the universe. Like breeding wolves to get dogs today, but dogs already exist.

Wolf is special forces second only to the elder Greyback Predator 2. He also has 200 yrs more advanced weaponry. Feral was killing snakes and wolves working his way up the ladder. No way he even gives Wolf a sweat. Wolf vs Ultimate predator would be a better match up

David didn’t create zenos he just used a recipe to create his own. It’s clearly show in Prometheus when they explore the caves a mural of a Zeno so must have existed prior to David

One of the original toys from the Aliens in the late 1970's Stood about 15"tall, had a removable dome plate. Underneath was a skull that glowed in the dark. It was really cool to see the glow in the dark skull underneath the tinted dome plate. My father had this toy. Not knowing at the time, this toy became the Holy Grail of toy collectors.

I never watched a predator movie but I might start just because of this.

I like to think that the engineers created a bioweapon, the black goo, out of the pre-existing xenomorphs. The space jockey in Alien 1 had after all a bunch of eggs and we still don't know where it came from. And the very DNA of the xenomporphs is still inside the goo, which explains the weird mutation of the decon and how David reverse engineered the goo into the Protomorphs. However, he created even more with his experiments like the Neomorph and whatever he will do in the ship at the end of Covenant. But despite all the movies (poorly) explaining the origins, we at least still can create a bunch of theories and ideas about all the things which are still a mystery. Let's hope Romulus will make a better job at that.

In my opinion Alien: Romulus will elevate Alien: Isolation into canon. Fede Alvarez has disclosed that Alien: Isolation had a lot of influence on design of Alien Romulus, and there is a emergency phone saving station from Alien:Isolation in one of the production photos. WY could have salvaged material from Torrens, which as of the end of Alien: Isolation is intact and carrying a xenomorph, maybe even eggs. Torrens would be much easier to find in space than a single alien, who really probably fell into the gravity well of one of planets around even if it survived being blasted by the engine.

I think it was explained somewhere in the early dark horse comics that because of their biology, they can consume both organic and inorganic materials. I remember it said they could eat things like dirt, glass, metals, and plastics. In the novel, it was explained that the xeno raided the Nostromo's food cache. But I like the comic's explanation better as it would be a neat lore explanation as to why the Nostromo crew couldn't the visuals to come back on as the xeno was inadvertently damaging components of the ship it was consuming.

Why do you assume the engineer is related to the space jockey ? My understanding is that the movie will not try to combine the two as in the prequels since that has upset so many Alien fans. If Scott or the director does it again that will end the franchise for good as far as the fans are concerned and only a very small minority will bother watching it.

Acording to the novelization of the first movie, the Nostromo's xenomorph ate most of the ship's food supplies during those hours it took to grow from the chestburster into the it's fully grown form.
