Please with the power of the KZfaq show me one Choi Lee Fut or how about any Nan Chuan long fist system form that throws a jab. Zero power from the jab, all of these forms generate power from the twisting of the waist and power from connection of the body.

Usually a person will pull up the pants leg of leg they will kick with. In this case, the one on the right pulled on his right leg (by the hip) and the other guy pulled up both legs (by his hip) which signals a spinning kick. It's the same as someone blading themselves before throwing a sucker punch.

Most traditional martial arts didn't put much emphasis on attacks. It's always defense and counterattacks. That's why it's quite effective against regular attacks and self defense, yet when it came to spar, many will looks like school children fighting. It'll be good to learn some competitive arts like karate, boxing or muay thai, then integrate it with the traditional arts you practiced.
@MrCBTman3 ай бұрын
What you said about “most traditional martial arts” is untrue,
@sitoudien98163 ай бұрын
I have theories why TMA is less effective. TMA is not codified into sport like karate, TKD, judo, boxing , etc.... Once you train like an athlete, your conditioning, cardio, endurance improve vastly. Look at old BW vintage videos and you'll see masters with no conditioning and swinging haymakers. With less emphasis on contact fighting and leaning on the performance art. The competition is determined by a judge akin to diving and gymnastics. Most TMA practitioners who want to fight transition to kick boxing or mma.
@TimRHillard6 ай бұрын
All due respect, I have a question. I thought Choy Lay Fut was about long swinging powerful, but unorthodox movements. What I see here are jabs, crosses, parries and then kicks: Roundhouse, front and back kicks, legs kicks... Looks like MMA without ground and pound. Nothing wrong with that, it works👍👍. But where's the Choy Lay Fu???
@SouthWarriorsMartialArts6 ай бұрын
No, the CLF is not just long punch, it works all distances, as you gain distance from the opponent the punchs become shorter, the concept of the 6 doors. greetings
@TimRHillard6 ай бұрын
Hi, I am a long time martial artist. I am looking for something new and different and discovered Choy Lay Fut. However, it seems that in use, sparring, everything either ends up looking like kick boxing or wrestling. I guess that is the nature of two arms and two legs, only so many ways to fight.
@blazingdragon96072 ай бұрын
Kickboxing itself was derived from traditional martial arts.. Also, since they're using boxing gloves, and not open finger gloves, it looks more like kickboxing than Kung fu.. Had they sparred with open finger gloves or without gloves, it would look more like KF
