You really need to swap the T18 (or NP435) for a '84 Diesel T19 or a Diesel ZF S5-42 - I put a Diesel T19 behind a 1986 F150 w/300-4bbl Comp Cam 260H 212°/212° with 1.7 Rockers, and a 3.25:1 Locking 9" Axle.... You Loose "Granny Gear" but on your 4x4 you have Low Range on 205 T-Case so no biggie...My Truck was ON ROAD 2WD...So No biggie.....The T19/S5-42 gears are MUCH closer together so when you shift you aren't dropping BELOW your torque curve....The 300-6 and the 6.9 IDI have almost identical torque curves, especially with some cam added!
@dilbeck67856 ай бұрын
I just shift out at 3k and I don't bottom out on the curve but it's pretty bad bog down when u hit 3rd. It would be nice to have i od too but granny low pays for itself
@dumpsterchicken62876 ай бұрын
Aren't you supposed to run @ 2,000 rpm to break the cam in?
@dilbeck67856 ай бұрын
Yep definitely a necessity. I did that in the first part of the video but didn't really record because I had too much going on trying to keep that rpm up

Did not know this, thanks for the tip because I'm thinking about camming my EFI 300 i6, any ideas on cams?
@dilbeck67854 ай бұрын
@@ivanpudge1187 my off the shelf comp cams 268 work and has a nice chop too it but if I were to do it again I would find a company I can't remember the name to make you a custom grind with the characteristics you want. Get a lot more chomp out of it
@ivanpudge11874 ай бұрын
@@dilbeck6785 I know yours is carved but do you know anything bout camming a EFI setup with auto trans? What all is needed to be done for it to be successful and what if I'm trying to produce more power instead of just having a loud idle
@coreybrenner3 ай бұрын
You'll be looking for a really mild grind, if you're running one of the speed-density efi systems. 1995 California and all 1996 4.9 engines had a MAF sensor. Those are a little more forgiving of larger cams. Otherwise, you'll have the computer coughing and sputtering, or you'll cough up cash for someone to dyno tune it with a tweecer or something. The dyno tune is well worth it, but have him leave the fuel just a touch fat, to avoid detonation. If you're camping the engine, consider a roller grind. I think there is a way to use roller lifters from a 302 or something. Be sure to replace the timing gears with a set for a 1972 F600 with the 300 six.
