There is an extra setting on FMS that allows access to container field data via the data API that needs to be set. The following setting enabled from the command line should address this: fmsadmin set serverprefs AuthenticatedStream=2

One of the problems with depersonalising data as a process is that the implementation cost can be very high and the frequency of use can be very low. Creating a general purpose solution is hard too - is that text field holding data that should be depersonalised or is it holding key values that are used as the basis for a non-obvious relationship? Thanks for covering this topic, folks - I'm looking forward to the blog post.

I completely agree, it can be time consuming and costly, especially when data requiring obscuration is tucked away in unsuspected places.

Good video and content. Was hoping you would be going over the FM -> QB direction, in particular invoices. I'm working on that right now and QB item and category selection is not working yet.

As great looking as this is, there have been several programming changes since this video was made. Would you consider updating the video, showing how to transfer the data into a new solution and discussing the changes? After 20+ hours of experimenting I've not gotten the solution to work. Thanks for taking the time. Hope you update it. Cheers

Absolutely Perfect!! Now if only I could get it working. I'm using a List view not portals and am stumped on step3. I know this is quite old but it is exactly what I'm looking for. Would appreciate if you could reach out and assist a novice emerging from his comfort zone. Single File solution

Tried using it in an actual Portal and got stuck on Step 7. No joy. Would really love to get this working

Hi SeanO, Unlike Portals which can have the custom sort enabled on the portal, list view sort needs to use a script step to do the sort. You will need to add a script step in the script that is called by the buttons. Insert something like the statement below at the end of the "Set Global Sort Fields". The sort will be the same type of sort that is on the portal. Use the "sorter_asc" and "sort_desc" fields for the sorting in the script. If [ Get ( LayoutViewState ) >= 1 and Get (LayoutTableName) = "The table you want to sort on" ] Sort Records [ Restore ; With dialogue: Off ] End If Hope this helps. I know this is an old post but it provides exactly the solution that I need. The solution looks great except that when I go into layout mode, the Global File Settings text object is not there. Any suggestions?

Hi Scott, we modified the demo file since this was posted. We put the Let() statement (referenced in the video at 3:44) into the "Hide object when" calculation for the text object "global text calculation". If you go into layout mode, you will see it in the lower left hand corner, it is the RED text object. It also explains itself. To see the calculation, select the "RED" text object and look in the Inspector under the "Hide object when" section. We changed it to the hide calculation, as it is evaluated well before the button bars are drawn, and also provides the added benefit of the "Specify Calculation" window, making it easier to add fields. It also means the fields won't break if they are renamed. Hope this helps!

I must have missed the part about the technique. All I see is the end result, which is quite impressive. I think you would have been way better off just calling this an advertisement, because it could be relatively successful as a marketing device. Maybe labelling it as an infomercial would be a good balance, since I'm assuming a better javascript programmer than myself might have gleaned more about the actual operation of the pivot table than I did.
