Another thought; so Kennedy was a young man surrounded by these old cronies who were in on who is really running things and it was a foregone conclusion in their minds that Kennedy would acquiesce to their direction, real talk they would bully him if needed. When the “missiles of October” went down, Taylor et al wanted to do a preemptive strike on the Soviet Union. Kennedy had to pull together all fibers of clear thinking, morality, and courage to go against the men who felt their lifetime occupation was to defend the US. I don’t think Nixon would have held up against them. If left to our military leaders the world would have imploded, so thank goodness, though alone on an island, Kennedy had the guts to follow his keen thinking and instincts.

Thank you again Mr. Talbot for your research and revelations and your courage. Yes, courage, because your reporting shakes the foundation and pillars of the majority of most Americans. While most Americans don’t believe Oswald was the lone assassin or the assassin at all, I don’t think they are aware that in the 50’s who was running foreign policy, economic policy and financial markets. Americans would not want to believe that Jack Kennedy was surrounded by agency heads CIA, FBI, the State Department, at least two of the four Joint Chiefs, who were insubordinate and establishing their agendas. Averill Harriman should have been executed before the Rosenberg, but no American would know of his action. They would only know of him and his swanky wife from the Style section of the Washington Post. When Kennedy didn’t provide what the CIA wanted at the Bay of Pigs it set their hair on fire. And when he denied the same hawks a military attack on Cuba during that crisis, and his speech at American U, those events sealed his fate; but who believe, i bet JFK wouldn’t have even believed his fellow Americans no matter how ideologically opposed would murder one of their own. He was wise enough to know that he had to conduct diplomacy in a clandestine manner. I can’t imagine being the President and you literally cannot trust anyone in all these crucial arenas. The ironic thing about the CIA, they were inept at what they were suppose to be doing. The Soviet’s and East Germans ran circles around them. But the CIA was very accomplished in subverting the American government and many nations attempting self government after years of empirical rule..that’s all for me. Sorry to bend your ear.

Its mind boggling how much the US owe to Europe and the Middle East. In Greece. My family always said. Imagine how peaceful the world could have been without the Americans. All the millions and millions and millions of lives that could of been Saved if the USA didn't exist.

Also. Islamic extremism and the British government go back a long way. I recommend the new edition of the historian Mark Curtis book Secret Affairs: Britain's Collusion with Radical Islam and terrorist groups since the 1940s. It will tell you what the news doesn't.

There has been a southernification of Gop politics. Its not just the politics of racial hierarchy that animates the right, but also the politics of gender hierarchy. The dismissal of BLM(weak 4th civil rights movement) or the legitimacy/dead legacy of ROE; Gop's politics is hierarchical. In many respects it is the central or only theme in contemporary gop politics. Own the libs is the moder gop. 70% of gop voters support donny enthusaistly. Where are the gop equalitarian? Do they have a even sliver of equalitarianism. An under appreicate aspect of all this is the role of right-wing radio serving their billionaire benefactors doesn't act in good-faith, they aren't cheating but they definitely are using propaganda to corner the political discourse market. Why is this too simple of a message? Sure RWM does clearly resonate with many voters, and having an open conversation, I have doubts. And whether this is a working class phenomon I also am skeptical. I would love to imagine the right wants to actually have a dialog, but I've rarely found them interested in a two way dialog. This has been going on for a long time. See the Southern Strategy and before that the red scare/ Father Coughlin. I concerned about this false objective/neutral/even handedness of David. To name of few of the problem facing the left, perhaps its the oppression olympics or focusing on untractable problem, but not being respectful? Is Dave saying we should flip our wings and put the kids gloves on, because we can't call them fascists. What gives? Are We going to sacrifce our greatest strengths as a country so the right-wing mob that is embracing fascism with glee, feels heard?

Congratulations to David for his hard work. The book is in point especially prior to 1960. I will strongly recommend his work to my international colleagues. Further more, If you liked to suggest last second in Dallas from Dr. Joshua Thompson. Both of Dr. Thompson and David are complementary. Congratulations to David Talbot, again great delivery!

Roe v wade. Thats affects those who live in poverty and extreme circumstances the most. Now they tripped the IVF just in time to start waves in the election. It affects women who have been paying and sacrificing to conceive. That’s not socio economic. That crosses all economic boundaries. Women’s rights. Have and can be. Overturned.

I have always wondered how Oswald got back in the States so easily after "Defecting" to the USSR? Wasn't that a huge red flag in the early 60s?

So glad to have the opportunity to see and hear Dr Abdul Kader Haidara who will forever be a hero to me, having read his story in Joshua Hammer's book. I love libraries and work in a library. I don't face the dangers faced by the Mali Librarians but some days are difficult in their way - I will remember the inspiration of Dr Haidara and his fellow literary custodians as I form a small part of promoting and treasuring literature in my town. I will strive to channel my inner bad-ass whenever times are hard. Libraries in the UK are often under threat from cuts if not from extremists, and we must all do all we can to champion them. Dr Hadaira's father clearly chose the right son to preserve and build his library. I hope Mali has the opportunity to increase literacy for all in its country and continue to produce great works there built on its incredible heritage. I looked for a charity specifically to make a donation to for the promotion of literacy in Mali but couldn't find one. If anyone can tell me I would be grateful.
