I love the comics more then the TV show because it's just iconic, although I was introduced to the TV show first. And lets be real Andrew Lincoln did an amazing job playing Rick. I would've carried on watching the show if Carl didn't get written off. AMCs worse choices were getting rid of Darabont and firing Chandler Riggs, the show had more potential if they stayed. AMC are just greedy 🙄

NGL everything else is fair, but calling his arc in the show a mess is crazy. He is multifaceted and complex, but there is still a clear arc of him growing colder and more brutal in order to survive and struggling to reconcile that brutality with his humanity. At the same time, he wanted to protect Carl from said brutality and make sure that he could grow up to become a good man. Thanks to his efforts, Carl becomes the kind of man that would sacrifice his life for a stranger, rekindling Rick's humanity through his actions and the letter. There's also the arc of Rick's "family" expanding over the course of the series. He starts out looking for his literal family, but later on he calls Daryl his brother and the group he is with when he arrives at Alexandria his family. His family are the people he cares about and anyone who isn't a part of that group matters very little to him. Eventually, though, he starts to consider everyone in Alexandria and later on everyone from the Hilltop and Kingdom his family too. After Carl dies and Rick defeats Negan, he starts to see all of humanity as his family, which is apparent from his speech to the saviors and the fact Okafor calls him out for this in TOWL. So yeah, it's a bit more convoluted than in the Comics, but I wouldn't say that it's a mess or that the writers didn't know what they were doing or where to take his character.

Frankly, I think in the comic the murder of the Hunters is actually worse, because they didn’t just hack them to pieces and get the job done and that’s it, iirc it’s implied they tortured them slowly on a table, one by one. Also Rick’s line after the main Hunter asks what they’re going to do to them “Maybe we’ll cut ourselves off a piece and give it a try” or something like that is just brutal.

I see why you would like Rick having a better moral compass. In the comics. But I personally feel like it’s more believable that someone wouldn’t regret certain actions or even do bad things after years of harsh, living and war. because at the end, we realize as the audience that he’s a man trying his best and, too me I find that more captivating.

I have a buddy who had never watched this show and a few years back we were talking zombies and what not. He said he would be excited if the was a zombie apocalypse and I was like be careful what you wish for because this show is exactly how it would be. I think the reason why Rick this show resonated with people and why Rick is such a compelling character is the realism. You would have to turn into the show version of Rick or you would die. Plain and simple.

The show should have been 3 seasons shorter. Seasons 1-3 can basically stay the same and thena season going from the fall of the prison to the arrival at Alexandria, a season for covering the war with the Saviors, a season for the Whsperers and a season for the Commonwealth

You're blatantly wrong about the T V Show Rick, killing the saviors in cold blood an the comic book Rick never did something like that. He literally killed one of the prisoners in the prison arc. When they weren't paying attention and they were trying to take down the walkers, he shot him. When no one else was looking except for Tyrese, and then said that it must have been an accident.

I may be biast bc i started off with the show an in netflix but i perfer the show over the comic by alot. Comic is all shock value with great moment an some build up but i love the show bc of the slow build up and the character moments with added scenes. Idk i just love the show so much more and carl dying in the show sucked but imo his end was good. His death was crappy but his story was essentially over an we still have Judith so honestly ik everyoke dropped the show in some deaths but i sticked through it all bc i love it
