200 bucks when I can just add a preamp or channel strip hmmm 🤔
@FrontEndAudio7 күн бұрын
you might be hard pressed to find a great preamp or channel strip for $200. This microphone is awesome for the money and will likely give you a much bigger sonic difference than another preamp would. Give us a call and we can discuss your setup and help you find your next piece of gear.

Thanks for the video! I'm wondering about the extra fun you mentioned: It seems like a great idea to buy and SD-3 and and SD-7 so I will have both set ot models. I would use SD-3 on the rack tom and SD-7 on the floor. I'm planning to use maybe the same Hemisphere mic models for each. How different is the SD-3 compared to the SD-7? What is your expereince? Can you achieve kind of the same with the same model used on a signal recorded with an SD-3 and an SD-7? I know they record differently a bit because of their polar pattern, and they have different rejection angles. But I don't get from the limited specification if there is really a big difference between them.
@FrontEndAudio26 күн бұрын
The SD3 is more mid forward with a softer top end. It is thicker and punchier (geared towards the sound you would want for rack toms). The SD7 has more upper mids and clarity to it, with good low mids and bottom, and more even mids (geared towards snare drum and floor toms). So they sound notably different. They all sound great on their own, so you can experiment with where you want to use the mics for their native character, and then you can play around with the different emulations for more tonal options. Don't look at it as a modeling mic, but a tonal system.

This is fantastic. I joked about the purple, but I've been trying to get something like this forever, the only other alternative being the SSL X-Desk which is no longer in production. The 500 Series spacing makes this so dope. I really don't need the pre's but as long as the unit is transparent I'm IN. How much is the Fader mate upgrade?
@FrontEndAudioАй бұрын
The entire console hits the perfect balance of being clean, but having live and dimension. It is in no way sonically boring, but it respects the audio and maintains the integrity of the signal. Malcolms current designs and gear are very impressive.

@@user-fw6lm1tn5p i was only kinda kidding, i'm not worried about it, but at the same time i do think a more reasonable color scheme will sell more units. the functionality of the mixer is exactly what everyone needs. this is like the SSL X-desk. Runs the risk of being underappreciated but I think most people with a decent amount of gear working from home or in smaller production rooms will love this. I've been looking for something like this to be able to track through, and also occasionally track to an 8 track tape machine and this ticks all the boxes. I'm just weary of the tone of the unit, and just want something transparent. Looking forward to some reviews.

Sorry you are experiencing trouble. We are certain that UA support will get back with you as quickly as possible and assist in resolving your issue(s). If you have not already tried, the pedal may need a firmware update, and also check the UAD forums. You might be able to find a solution there quickly.

How are these when used on a live stage?
@FrontEndAudioАй бұрын
Only used these in the studio. But given the off-axis rejection, and pre-tailored sound of the mic (all the SD series mics), we would believe them to sound great. Not sure if using the emulations live is feasible, but the mics sound great on their own, so no reason they can't be used in live sound.

Nobody has an answer to help me. The only way so far is to reach around and turn off the speakers that I don’t want to use. Very strange that avid has no reply’s for me. I don’t want to return it, but if I can’t figure it out, I may have too.

All you should have to do is go into the system preferences for your OS and set the MBox as your default sound device. It also helps to disable any other audio devices so the MBox is the only sound device on your computer.

The phantom power light flashing as you step through the 200, 600, 2.4k is rather disturbing. That's not good for a mic.
@FrontEndAudio2 ай бұрын
Phantom Power is not active, and does not reach the mic until you switch the setting to "Mic +48V". Nothing to worry about when an LED is simply displaying a setting change has been made.

Interesting: whenever I’ve mounted mic boom arms to a drum rack, I get a heap of resonances from the mounted drums and cymbals through the rack and up into the mounted mics, so I’m guessing the non-isolating mic mounts would cause similar issues? Any thoughts on this …?
@FrontEndAudio2 ай бұрын
Personally I believe you should always use stands, and never mount a mic to a drum rim or drum rack. Point being that these mics are too heavy to rim mount, so if you are in a situation where stands are not possible, rack mounting would be the best solution. Using some form of isolation for the mic (shockmount, etc) would be highly recommended, but that is for the engineer and their available resources to resolve.

Hello, I tried connecting an Apollo interface to my PC using a Thunderbolt connection about a year ago. Despite my motherboard having a Thunderbolt input, the drivers didn't function properly and caused my PC to crash. I encountered difficulties using it with discord. Have you updated the drivers for all Apollo interfaces to enhance compatibility with Windows, or was it just for this specific model? Thank you for your response; I'm still eagerly considering purchasing one.

Thanks for the demo, but it's too polite! Need to crush things if you're going to demo an 1176, and the Lindell crushes quite well. Any compressor sounds good with a slow release like in this video, but crushing is where the hardware shines above the plugins.
