Very helpful video. Thank you. Can you tell me how much the sails cost?
@serenitycoastUK
@serenitycoastUK 21 сағат бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment and for liking the video. From memory it was £2200-£2400. The sail was made by Hyde sails, I went with them for a few reasons. Firstly - it's the company who had made the previous sail. Secondly - I see on other boats their logo. Thirdly - The guy I was incontact with basically told me that with the inmast furling on a Z Spar mast. That he recommends going with the thinner material along with no batons. This should make it easier to go in and out of the mast as their is less volume trying to get in and out. I had spoken to 5 different sail makers and I had 5 very different answers along with a variety of prices up to £7k. Some where telling me batons hold the sail shape better and the thicker material will last longer etc. Others said do not go for batons and go middle of the road. So it was a bit of a difficult decision because they all gave very different answers.

Good video. Did you use gasket sealant? And does it have to be high temp sealant
@serenitycoastUK
@serenitycoastUK 21 сағат бұрын
There was no gasket when I had removed any of the parts, The exception was a rubber o-ring at the top, this was undamaged so I just cleaned it. I also did not use any sealant and there was no evidence of sealants used. I hope this helps, thank you for leaving a comment and liking the video. Apologies it took a while to get back to you.

That's a very cost effective DIY set up, and very useful to watch - thanks. Personally, I'd always wear disposable gloves when handling diesel, plus any spillages are often hard to clean up (the diesel smell lingers). So I'd probably contain it all in a plastic container of sorts.

From my chef days I learnt that if you wash your hands with hot water then you end up baking the scent on to your hands, So I wash with cold soapy water which does the trick. Some jobs I wear gloves however I tend to poke holes in them pretty quickly so they tend to come off pretty quickly. Yeah can be a little messy and I am indeed a messy worker. :-)

100% Lots of marinas don't allow this, some offer a don't kiss don't tell. Others new management come in and do a round up. I use mine as a floating holiday home. Often it can be months until I see the boat as my main gig is working in events. So road shows, hotels and now the boat is paid for I'll fly off winter time when the weather is poor, the work is low and the cost of living is high.

Absolutely it's amazing being out on the water, if you can jump on someone else's boat as crew amazing. Here I'm the UK we have had 2 bas summers back to back. I have some way to go yet before I cast off the lines and cruise for months at a time. But I'll sure be going some adventures soon enough. I'll most likely film them. I tend to do a mix of what I'm doing like car Fixing videos, or answering questions. I had a few people ask how I Make Money and how much I make on YT as a small content creator. I'm putting together a video about real world things to think about before buying a recreational vehicle. such as a boat or RV. Thanks for leaving a comment, liking and subscribing if you did. I have some questions - can you sail it single handed ok? - what sailing experience did you have before you bought it? - where have you taken it so far? - how much boat maintenance experience/ expertise do you have?
@serenitycoastUK
@serenitycoastUK 16 күн бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. -I brought this boat due to being able to single hand it all lines lead to the cockpit, it's in mast furling system works well. -Sailing experience I do have a video on my experience in total I have sailed around 2500 miles. In the UK you don't need to have qualifications in Europe you need the competent crew. - My own boat I haven't taken it that far due to a mixture of health and wealth. I was in an accident just before I brought the boat. The prognosis was I'm a young guy and 3 months later I would be fine, anyway just under 3 years later I had a knee operation and had a brace put in. Also during lock down I don't want to boast here but my income was double figures.......£10 a month. So my boat ownership has been Year 1 - Accident and not being able to get around and income slashed. Year 2 - Lockdowns and pretty much no income. Year 3 - Knee Op and again no income support. Year 4 managed to get the boat paid off and trying to get it efficient as possible. I'm in year 5 and work has picked up and I'm looking to do my day skipper and do some boat projects with that, If you would like to follow the channel then you will see those project. I basically have the antifouling and everything at the ready, I just need the time now :-) Boating has been a bit on the back foot as I have been saving for a van. I get hit by the "Clean Air Zones" and since my work is not consistent I don't really finance things. Which as you can see above has worked for me very well! As for the maintenance side. There are course you can do like diesel maintenance and basic electrics. KZfaq is also helpful, lots of my content recently has been fixing my car doing servicing on it and filmed in a way that someone with no knowledge can follow along. For example how to jack up a car, where exactly filters are and how to open them. I also made a fuel polishing video which has done pretty well too. I tend to make content on things I am doing, my car is held together with duck tape and hope. As mentioned I am trying to save for a van so to cut cost is helping and it's nice receiving peoples comments and answering their questions. If you are going the boat route I would head somewhere in autumn/ early winter. This will give you a real experience of what boat life is like. You will also be with someone who is experienced so if the weather isn't that great then they can guide you. I remember when shopping for a boat one description stated that they where selling because of their wives being very sea sick. So if you do have a plus 1 then remember it's not just your dream and you can't make your dream someone else's. Here at the marina it very much is a boys club, the girls come out for events and when the hard work is done and the sun and gin is out. As for if you are buying a boat things like cockpit enclosures, upholstery those type of things are expensive jobs. Take your time and make sure you have a marina available they make boats way quicker than they make marinas. For single handed 32-36ft is a good size, make sure you have standing head room. Feel free to ask anymore questions or if you want me to make a video about a certain topic.

I'm particularly interested in that side of things, as I'm considering the liveaboard life and I just want to make sure my finances are strong first... But from different sources, I don't think it would cost any more than a house to run, less infact. Anyhow, nice boat!

Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment and liking the video. I actually did a popular video where I had broken down 4 years of owning the boat. My advice would be to make sure you have a place for the boat, along with if there are any restrictions on the boat usage. Lots of marina's do not allow people to live on their boats full time. From time to time my marina throw out emails and messages about the length of boat usage, Ironically the same people are the ones who use their boats more than me lol. My work is pretty seasonal and as a result for the last 3 months I have not been on the boat boat at all. Work has picked up which means lots of driving and hotels. I managed to pay the boat off last year and my aim is to do what I used to before the boat. That was go back packing at the start of the year for 4 months. Ditch the poor weather etc. I'm also looking to swap my car for a van for when the weather is less boat friendly. I do live in a few different places over all the UK and for months have been looking after my folks as my dad isn't well. If you are looking for a boat I would go somewhere in autumn/early winter to do a day skipper course iit's 5 days in total. Gets you use to reality of boat life trust me it's easy to fall in love with boat life when the sun and rum is out. But the reality is it's hard work maintenance is a biggie. If you are 100% looking for a boat, then I would choose one with things like a cockpit enclosure, something around 32-36ft. Check things like the upholstery engine etc as these are all expensive jobs. My boat doesn't have an enclosure and I have been quoted £5k for example. (they are the tents on the back of the boat) Feel free to ask any questions, I do like peoples comments questions and feedback. Thank you for liking and subscribing if you did.

Just wanted to ask in twrns of the coolant, i was convinced that the vauxhall approved for these engines is the RED and only red coolant so is that Prestone one ok?
@serenitycoastUK
@serenitycoastUK 26 күн бұрын
I used the Preston one for about 5 months now. The label states "Prestone provides corrosion protection for 300,000 miles. Works in all extremes from -37°C to 129°C and is suitable for all cars and light commercial vehicles. Appropriate for adding to any other coolant/antifreeze." I wanted to use it as it's available all over plus supermarkets. So incase of a leak I can just run into Tesco. If your doing a full flush you may want 2 bottles as it goes via the heater matrix. (put the heater on full) I used one bottle and it's why it's still a bit red. I did a video changing the coolant tank as a couple months later the tank started leaking. The float sensor before the service also sometimes came up with "code 3" which is check coolant level.

Haven't seen any videos of people testing/using these large-scale powerbanks/powerstation things or what you might want to call them until I stumbled over this one - maybe they exist out there, but I missed them, so cheers for that! :D Are these LiFePO4 cells maybe? I would strongly prefer that chemistry, because of the wear on traditional NMC cells when stored at a high state of charge, and also their relatively high self-discharge rate and limited number of charging cycles vs. LiPO cells. Higher fire hazard for NMC cells, probably not worth getting all worked up over as long as your powerstation isn't built using cheap noname surplus cells from China. :P Personally I would probably buy Anker myself, but this guy looks really robust, and powerful. Sound level tho - oof! lol OTOH, running a water kettle off of batteries, that's quite the accomplishment! :D

It would of been great to have a bit more time with it as I could if took it to my boat and linked it to solar panels for testing. Some times you just have to work with the time and what you have. So I picked up the barista pro which works pretty good, it heats up a lot quicker than the express.....i do prefer the express though. But I'm looking at the bambino one which doesn't have the grinder on it but smaller and lighter to take around with me. I stay in hotels a lot so again I get a few looks lol. I picked up my pro on ebay, there was a refurbished one I think it was around £500 vs the instore £700-£750. The bambino pro was from memory £200 so maybe ask Santa claws, or bday gift :-) Thank you for taking the time to leaving a comment, liking the video and subscribing if you did. If your looking to crew on people's boats perhaps look at websites like crew bay or join a local marina. My friends who take people on prefer to have crew who have a day skipper and a little experience. You can do things like a day skipper course online they're around £300 then you can head on a week course they tend to go for around £1000 for a week. Personally I'm looking at a website called nav at home when I have spare time and will likly do my course in somewhere like Gibraltar. I have no affiliation with any of those mentioned. At the moment it's been challenging to get to the marina due to work commitments. I do have some other videos for example I talk about the 2500 miles that I've sailed on a mix of boats along with breaking down the cost of boat ownership on my own boat. Hope this helps that's for liking the video and subscribing if you have. Have a great day.

Needless to say out of the previous vax cars ive owned it was packed, i ended up soaking it then having to slowly and carefully using a pic to break it down as the outside was solid and stright away first and second gear pulls were just a different plantet. The intake manifold are coated in it also but i dont want to take it all apart as ive only just got it. Want to clean the egr and down pipe though as seems simple but the manifold is a diffrent story so tempted to ask my brother (mechanic) to check and replace proberly. Do you thing the intake manifold is realistic to clean or just buy new ? That goes for the egr and down pipe as well, if the car is pretty filled is it worth just getting new ?

As your brother is a mechanic, I would ask him. Maybe for a beer, Real wealth is not money but friends, family, experience and relationships he will help you out ;-) He may also have a scan tool to see if there is anything wrong with the car. Mine is also similar with the gunk inside, and for me, I'm trying to keep the car going while I'm saving for a van. Which means taking on minor jobs to keep it going. Mainly due to the clean air zone stuff. I'm working in London zone 1 and staying in zone 3. Each day I'll be hit with the ulez zone and Sunday when I'm working in zone 1 the congestion. So it's going to be an expensive weekend at work! I don't always working in London but I do frequently work in Birmingham and Bristol. Which have similar things. Thank you. I'm glad to have helped. If you're planning on doing future jobs, then investing in tools like a Torque wrench would be good. I will be buying one for my next car job, which is changing the breaks. The torque ensures that the unit is flush with the unit. I didn't change the gaskets on mine as they were not damaged. I'm looking to retire the vehicle at around 200,000 miles. Fantastic video! It gives me the confidence as a novice to have a go. A video on changing the front discs and pads would be great!

I should be able to do the breaks in a couple of weeks time. I have a busy work schedule until then. But I will be filming how I have done it. I will try to make it as easy to understand as possible. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. I always like peoples comments, questions and feedback and thank you for liking the video and subscribing.

Thank you, I've been trying to improve my videos with both quality and trying to film on the perspective of someone who hasn't done anything mechanical before. For example, I had filmed a major service and shown everything from how to jack up the car to how to un do everything. My next car video will be the breaks. Typically, I also add cost to my videos with a comparison of DIY vs. mechanic. Thank you for taking the time to comment, liking the video and subscribing.

I am kind of amazed how cheap everything except the boat purchase cost is.

I got pretty lucky with the overall condition of the boat. However, things can be expensive, especially if you're comparing household items vs. boat ones. For example, I need a new composer that will be around £800. If you compare that to a house hold one you can get an American fridge freezer with ice dispenser for the same price. While I'm doing thr compressor I may as well replace the damaged counter top. upgrade insulation and change the oven due to gas pipe fittings behind the unit. So the £800 job will now cost much more. Its the same with the cockpit enclosure. its basically a tent, yet I've been quoted £5,000+. Thank you for taking the time to comment, liking the video and subscribing. I'm only a small channel, so have the time to answer questions and get back to people.

Your welcome, I enjoy reading this type of message it's really motivating to make more content. I'll be changing the breaks in a couple of weeks along with cleaning the throttle valve, EGR down pipe. I recently went on a trip to the Welsh coast. 3 adults wheel chair and bags. I had a bit of a lack of power. So I'll be giving it a good clean. Thank you for liking and subscribing :-) have a great day.

My setup: 4x 120W bifacial Panels in series horizontal above the back of the cockpit and 2x 4x50w in series/parallel on either side vertical. 2x Victron 100/20 MPPT charge controller and 4x265Ah 12V LifePO4 in series for a single 48V battery bank. From April to October I get by without any grid power, living fully on board. On a good day, I make around 4kWh and use between 1-2kWh. The big battery helps when there are a few cloudy days. One good day compensates for 3-4 bad days. And I can manage about 10 Days on Battery alone. Why 48V? - lesser gauge cables for the same power, - more Wp per MPPT Charger (they are limited by charging current, 14Vx20A=280W, 54Vx20A=1080W) - electric propulsion conversion ist feasible with 48V - more efficient conversion to 115/230V AC. Downsides: - Solar string voltage has to exceed the charging voltage of the Batterie by about 5-10V, so you need 3-4 Panels in Series - You need DC-DC converter for almost everything. A good compromise is a 24V System. Most DC-appliance also run on 24V, for example those USB-C Car plugs. I use these to power my Laptop for example. More efficient than using the 230V Inverter.

That's a cool set up, I managed to get some work on recently, which has been helpful. I think I'll get a bluetti or jackery first as I need to change cars due to the clean air zones. So looking to get a van which I can use to go adventures. That way I can use it in both van and the boat. I do need to change my batteries they got a bit too discharged. Thanks for taking the time to comment, and thank you for liking and subscribing. It's always great to grow the community.

Yeah, it's a cool marina. There is so much to do in the area, and it's safe too. Even if it's not boating walking the bay is great. I often volunteer with the cardiff rescue dogs hotel. Paddle boarding up the river is also great. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I always enjoy reading people's comments questions and feedback. It helps with the motivation and have a great day.

Cool, be nice to see how that works out. In the UK we have a cold damp temperature so at the moment have been running the diesel heater and dehumidifier. But I really want to be as self sufficient as possible.

All nice , quite good videos but i hate that type of oil change . It never gets all properly ... each to their own i guess but i prefer the old fasion sump plug and let it drain for a good while .
@serenitycoastUK
@serenitycoastUK 3 ай бұрын
Yeah, the sump plug had got stuck they can be a ball ache to get off. I tried a breaker bar along with overnight having penetrative oil sprayed on. So it was plan B which I measured that I pretty much got over 95% of it out. You would think they would just put a ball value/ tap on so you can easily get all the fluids out. If I designed a car all the filters would be in the same way access location along with drain valves. Then again they want you to go and spend your money getting these things done. I like the subru outback filters are on the top of the engine and you can touch it with your hand as easy as the oil cap.

@@serenitycoastUK If you get the sump plug off you can fit your own ball valve and its cheaper than a " pro magnetic " sump plug . I get where you going woth the design. I did an oil change yesterday on a 1.4 tfsi Audi but its VW engine . If you have ever seen that you would think at first glance they where thinking of the mecanic untill you take the oil filter off and realise there is no way to take it off without soaking the alternator in used oil ... the car just burned through the second alternator . Nevertheless in your case i understand the reason and you might be batient enough to wait for the vacum to get most oil out but in a service station they dont wait ... had the fist oil done on my 2014 insignia by the dealer as it was included in price ... wish i never let them ... shit oil like water and it went dark in 30 seconds from the first engine run ... 1 week later did it again with decent oil filter and roughly 2 hours of wait for all the oil to drop down . On a different note from your point of view what is the best oil for the 2.0 cdti ? I am between motul and manol but i see a lot fo people use the shell you had in the video . I do 25 to 30 k a year so do quite a few changes .. and the best option financialy is the 20l jug mannol energy premium dexos 2 but i would rather use something better even if i spend an extra 10 15 quid on a change ( not a pro mecanic )
