Hi! I found your channel recently and love your content - thank you! I have an editing question - if my Peak Amplitutde is higher than -3 dB (it's -1 dB) how do I change that? I tried the Amplify to -3dB effect and it changed the RMS to lower than the required -18 to -23 dB range. I am learning Adobe Audition for the first time. All the other levels are in the right range.
@VoiceOverAngela
@VoiceOverAngela Күн бұрын
@kailariver keep in mind that RMS is the average dialogue volume. So that needs to be under control first, then always the last step is to normalize to -3db. That should get you to the right peak. If your RMS is too low, undo normalize and increase the volume then normalize again then check. Rinse and repeat until it's right

Thanks for this video! As someone just starting out in voiceover & Fiverr, the info and insights are invaluable. I did have a couple questions for you. First, what software do you use for synching your audio with video? That's not a skill I have yet but would like to learn it. And secondly, what websites do you use for purchasing music that can be used as background? I'm assuming you have to purchase the license and then you're free to use it in a client's project? Thanks again!

@@VoiceOverAngela I think over the past year I've realized how incompatible anxiety and trauma is with voice acting on so many levels. If I had a large platform I'd definitely be sharing that message with newbies who might have related diagnoses. I feel like I've wasted 4 years of my life trying and have ultimately worsened my situation mentally, physically, & economically. The breathwork, yoga, eating right, hydrating...all of it didn't have enough of an impact, apparently.

My first reading of a longer section of a book was for Librivox (free Public Domain audio-books that are out of copyright) last year, and it was 15k words. (Look up "At The End of the Wires" if you're interested) A bit daunting for a beginner, with multiple accents and characters to be sure. It took a lot longer than expected! But I learnt a lot about my DAW, how to breathe, pacing, technique etc., and they give you enough time to do all this. It's a great training ground without the $ constraint. One thing, though, in searching for this right now I've discovered that someone has taken my reading and put this out on their KZfaq channel. They do not need permission to do so as this is in the Public Domain. But it would be nice if my name was mentioned, as it is credited on Librivox.

It's taken me 2 years to feel comfortable with recording and learning and organize takes. Although I primarily do singing vocals but VO is still a fun hobby. With the very limited time do have, ive been slowly building the skills to develop and ear for proper sound. I currently have an mv7 and I think that will be just fine with proper EQ and whatnot. The AT 4040 is a mic I have been looking into and it seems as though it possesses quality audio. The goal is to take my time and build quality takes to get jobs. I have seen posts like that on Instagram. They pop out of nowhere and they disappear. It does take hard work and you have to be your own audio engineer. 😅

I have just finished my first audiobook on ACX and am awaiting QA. However, during some auditions I recently made I noticed that my work sounds completely different and worse when I listened to it on my phone instead of the headphones in my studio. Seeing as perspective rights holders are most likely listening to the audition on a phone, tablet, or laptop, how do I deal with the vast change in sound between the two sources?
@VoiceOverAngela

@johnbean6683 you're right, different types of speakers will make the audio sound a bit different. If you're concerned about your audio, I would reach out to an audio engineer for a booth and sound audit. I did this about 4 years ago and it was worth it for my sound quality and confidence!

Can you guide me Adobe audition which version I should be looking as a new narrator and why have you used clicker? to remember where to edit? What would be examples of some key indicators of a scam on Fiverr? My normal world is film and television production for the last 40+ years and the scammers go after the noobies as well. I call it looking for "red flags".

I've had two instances of "Support" at Fiverr trying to "authenticate" my account, which involved requesting financial information. When I queried with the real support line, the messages vanished. I've also had messages along the lines of "I spotted your profile and I think you'd be a perfect fit for our project" (often a role that didn't actually sync with my abilities.) The offers are then invariably ridiculously low.

@robert_starling some good red flags are links in the messages. Never click links. Ask for the script to be uploaded directly so you can scan it with anti-virus software. Asking for you to fill out documents with personal info: not needed. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

I think my main noise source is the AC coming in the vent, nothing else. What filter will drop that? These extra filters you use, how do you import them into Adobe? That's worth a video right there, a step-by-step tutorial on where to get them, and how to import them into Audition, please. BTW, I use Audition exclusively, because it saves a wav file. Audacity wants to save as its own file type, making it impossible to listen to the file anywhere else.

Do you have a video for writers with suggestions on how we should post things on ACX? For example, I write fantasy and I would like to post my books on ACX. Is there a best practice for how much of the script should be narration vs dialog? In the notes section for the script, what information is most helpful to narrators who are interested in putting in an audition?
@VoiceOverAngela
@VoiceOverAngela 23 күн бұрын
@zornsturm2543 great questions! Auditions are typically only going to be about 2-3 minutes long, if you want to hear how the narrator handles a certain scene, emotion, or narration vs dialogue (which are all important) then this would be the section you request to hear. For notes, provide character attributes, any trigger warnings, spice level (if applicable) etc. This is a team effort, you want this narrator to be a good fit for your team. Thanks for listening!
