Thanks so much for this video! I've just discovered a number of edible wild plants growing on the property I bought recently and Penny Cress is one of them. I live in the PNW, it's hot and dry here. The Penney Cress was mostly dry so I picked some and dried it out completely as a dried 'flower' arrangement. It's so unique looking. Well, I decided to give it a try today. Boy, oh boy are my seeds smaller than yours. I'm so glad I found your video that explains how to harvest the seeds. They taste mustardy, but there's no heat to them at all. I suppose that's because they're not mature seeds. Anyway, now, thanks to you, I know how to free the seeds from the husks. I'm going to try mixing them into mayo, honey and wine vinegar. Blessings of health and happiness to you and yours!

Ive had personal experience with propolis. Me and my boyfriend had sores on our bodies that wouldnt heal. It started with a small cut i got from dropping a piece of chopped wood on my foot and for some reason my wounds wouldnt heal. Any wound i got after that wouldnt heal and even got bigger. My boyfriend suffered the same and we tried everything nothing would work. My boyfriends friend came by the one day with propolis his gran made and we hadnt even used half when our wounds healed up. Great stuff😮

@Deep Woods Dietitian - Thank you for this video, and recipe. Nicely done!! I am a bee keeper and just started collecting propolis (I'm so excited to use it!). In your video you use 10 drops of your tincture. How did you decide how many drops to use? Would more tincture be indicated for other uses? Was it a flavor issue for the lozenges? Also, in allowing the boiled product to cool, and thicken a bit, prior to adding the tincture, do you know if propolis - and consequently the tincture - is denatured by increased temps as honey is? I understand the nutrients in honey are denatured at temps around 110 -115 degrees F. Do you know if it is advised to have the boiled product cool that low before adding the tincture? Thanks so much for any thoughts on this.

@DeepWoodsDietitian3 ай бұрын
@@oksanapavletich8116 I made it a while back but my label says I used 1 part cinnamon sticks to 4 parts of 40% alc vodka. Use a kitchen scale to measure & then wait a few weeks before straining out the cinnamon sticks. I like to use it in baking.

Can we consume the propolis without making a tincture
@DeepWoodsDietitian3 ай бұрын
I'm not sure how palatable it would be but I have read about it being powdered or chewed.
@cjcj87302 ай бұрын
@Blueyopo - Regarding consuming propolis without making a tincture (or possibly a powder), as I understand it the waxes and resins within the propolis are difficult for human digestive system to digest and absorb. That is why one is encouraged to use the propolis in a processed form instead of consuming it raw. Hope this is helpful.

Hi! So wax can actually form in the flowhive? how was teh extraction process? was it a nice amount of wax on the flowhive combs?
@DeepWoodsDietitian7 ай бұрын
Hi! No, there is wax inside the flowhive section but you wouldn’t collect it from there. The wax we harvested was from an additional super, unfortunately we have a bit of a hybrid system at the moment.
@Luna-jk9de7 ай бұрын
@@DeepWoodsDietitian Thank you so much! And one more question, do you guys also collect royal jelly? or is that found in the flow hive as well and easy to retrieve if need be and to keep the colony size manageable? and is this practice recommended? (Studying bee keeping so I may want to try it in the future on a small personal scale!)
@DeepWoodsDietitian6 ай бұрын
@@Luna-jk9de We have not harvested any royal jelly and I feel like that would be a next level practice that is labor intensive. You do not want your bees laying in your flow hive, it is best if they hatch in the brood boxes below. So there will only be honey (no RJ) in your flow hive, which is optimal for when you want to harvest. RJ is only fed to the larva in early days (or to future queens for the duration), so in theory when your larva is a three days old you could remove the frame, tweeze out the larva, extract the jelly from each cell and either discard or return the larva. I wouldn’t recommend it for a beginner. But harvesting propolis, wax or pollen could be more feasible. Where are you located?
