Do you find the unifex cubes to be a lot easier to use than math link cubes. My son struggles with fine motor and I am wondering if these are a better option.

Our son showed great interest in letters from an early age. When he was about a year old, we read him a poem with the alphabet and that was where it started. Now he is less than 2 years old and knows the entire alphabet. When he sees a short word, he wants to know how to read it. He sometimes pretends to read a book in his imaginary language. Seeing that he is interested in reading, I intend to start teaching him around the age of 3. So it depends a lot on the child. There is no point in trying to force it. However, if there is interest, it is worth developing and supporting. And so it is with everything. Art, math, nature... (Sorry for spelling and grammar mistakes, I'm from Poland ☺️).
@AlicjaRaczko2 жыл бұрын
And in Poland, when compulsory schooling begins, there is an exam in home education at the end of the year and the child MUST have some knowledge to pass the year. So, whether a child likes something or not, he has to learn it 🤷♀️ If there is no such thing in your country, and only needs to master certain skills after graduation school, then You have time ☺️ Encourage your child, familiarize them with the topic, and eventually something will click and they become interested.
@PrairieRootsHomeschool2 жыл бұрын
It's so true that so much of it depends on the child. I think it's wonderful that you're nurturing that early interest for your son. When it comes down to it, the best thing we can do is to follow their lead. My daughter actually knew all her letters before the age of 2 and has known all of her letter sounds by age 3. However, she just does not have a desire to learn how to read right now. And that's perfectly okay! We're just going to keep those letter sounds fresh in her mind for when she's ready. There's studies out there that show that no matter if a child learns to read at 3 or at 7, that by 3rd grade most of the children are at the same reading level anyways. But if a child shows such a desire to read early on, then I certainly would go for it and not hold them back. In other words, I completely agree with what you're saying!

@@AlicjaRaczko Compulsory school age in our state (and I believe most states in the US) is age 6/first grade, so we're not at the point quite yet. Legalities and requirements vary from state to state here.
@annajohnson71392 жыл бұрын
Our son is the same! He knew all his letters and sounds before two, now we’re just trying to build his phonemic awareness skills, fine motor skills, and attention span before teaching him to read and write. I’ve never met any other kids who are ready so young, so we’re just trying to figure it out as we go and follow his lead.
