Sadly the demonstration is fine but the video of you paddling shows arm muscles only no use of torso legs hips. Check it out. As a qualified BCU paddler it’s a shame you use that demo. When showing proper stroke you tout the effective method

I have the Romany sport and there's absolutely NO WAY you will pack it even one night stay. The fact the hatches are no small and round you are very limited to what will go in . Very disappointed in it over all , the hatches take time before they fit properly and I have lost two . The foot pegs are small which caused me nerve damage between my toes and out me out if actions for 3 months. I vert seldom use it now

I have one too and I love it - it's designed as a surf/rock play/weekender boat, not an expedition boat like the pilgrim in this video. That being said it's still got plenty of room for a few days if you don't try to pack the kitchen sink. The hatch openings are small, yes but they're also super water tight - you just need to pack gear into smaller dry bags and consider packing your tent poles separately to the tent. They're incredibly tight when the boat is new but a quick spray with some silicone and they slip right on. They do offer an oval rear hatch on their composite boats as an alternative. The foot pegs are pretty standard so not sure how you would get nerve damage, sorry to hear that. Definitely the nicest plastic boat I've come across in terms of design and build quality. I'd buy a larger composite NDK for longer expeditions in a heartbeat.

No the foot pegs certainly aren't standard they are quite small compared to any other boat I have owned or used . All their boats should have of had oval hatches on these boats as I never use it for over night as it isn't worth the effort . I have also had put on padding along the top of the seat as it starts become very uncomfortable after a while . Very very disappointed with finish of the boat in to many area's. A few other's who I paddle with have discided against getting one after using it

This boat is terrible. I got a lightly used 146 for free and I quickly realized why I got it for free. Boat tracks like absolute trash. Do yourself the favor and find yourself a used one in market place. If you’re playing on buying new just save up for a Sitka.

This kayak is terrible. I owned a 146 and got rid of it. It was slow as all shit and couldn’t keep straight to save its life. Maybe my boat was defective. I’d just save up and got for an Sitka if you want a better experience.

great video - its a great confidence builder and something I wished I'd learned before trying to roll as it takes away the fear of failing a roll and being trapped - as you say its a foundational skill you simply get out sideways, float up whilst bracing the leg as you say and relax and gently skull up thanks for posting

Your teaching this wrong. It's a touring kayak, not a play kayak. In touring kayaks (kayaks that track), you edge the kayak left to go right & edge right to go left. Touring kayas track simply track in response to leaning alone. Test this, once the boat is up to speed, stop paddling, the boat will continue straight while ever the hull is level. If you edge left, the boat will turn right & if you swap to edging right, the boat will switch to turning left. A touring kayak will not not go sideways & capsize. Play kayaks on the other hand do not track. That is once they start to turn, the turn will tighten up by itself so that the boat will quickly be drifting sideways & this will tend to want to capsize the kayak. In a play kayak & I include Slalom kayaks in that category, you still initiate the turn with an outside edge for just one sweep stroke, then immediately reverse the edge to an inside edge & bow rudder, to counter the side drift as the boat spins around rapidly. Whenever you stop paddling a play boat, it will immediately turn one way or the other & go into a side drift, with no input from you. The side drift will likely be rapid & tend to capsize you. For this reason the paddler must edge away from the drift to prevent a capsize. That is not the way for a touring kayak though. You can paddle a touring kayak up to speed, stop paddling and steer the boat simply by edging one way, then the other. This is sufficient to initiate, cancel or reverse the turn. A touring kayak such as a sea kayak will stop turning when you return the hull to level. For this reason, it is more efficient & effective to turn a touring kayak by edging to the outside of the desired turn, opposite to what you demonstrate. This is the way!

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:07 Learning to launch and land your kayak correctly is crucial to avoid injuries, gear damage, and embarrassing falls. 00:38 Protect your kayak, paddle, and yourself during launch by using your paddle as an outrigger for balance. 01:07 Before putting on your skirt, take a few strokes to avoid being pushed back onto the shore. 01:30 When landing, keep your upper body on the dock, and if possible, have a paddling friend hold the deck lines for stability. 01:48 Practice launching and landing in various conditions and shorelines to develop the skills needed to protect yourself, your gear, and your kayak. I am Egyptian, A COPTIC CHRISTIAN EGYPTIAN. I shout that out loud because we are the most pure blooded Egyptians out there and that's not only my opinion that's what Egyptologists, Historians and Scientists also agreed on, and I tell you that every word that Bassem Youssef said is right and I totally agree with him. Yes Egypt had lots of mixed cultures throughout its history like for example: Assyrians, Persians, Israelites, Nubians, Ukrainians, Greeks, Romans and Arabs, but the Egyptian blood didn't mix and change that much and that's because for centuries we Egyptians had a golden tradition rule to marry our cousins, and that tradition is still present until now especially in Upper Egypt(from Assiut to Aswan), Although that tradition seems silly and bad from a scientific biological point of view, but that doesn't matter, silly or not we kept that tradition of marrying our cousins for centuries and that helped us to preserve our pure Egyptian blood not mixed as long as we could, and the result is what you see now and that is Modern Egyptians looks typical to their Ancient Egyptian Ancestors, just look at my skin color and Bassem Youssef's skin color we are almost the same although he is a Muslim who was born and lived in Cairo and I am a Coptic Christian who was born and lived in Luxor and there is almost a 1000 km distance between us, doesn't that tell you a thing or two about who Ancient Egyptians were and what they looked like? With all due respect for all the Black people and all the other ethnicities out there, but we Egyptians are special very special, WE ARE NOT Black or White or Yellow, Not Europeans or Africans or Asians, Not Assyrians or Persians or Israelites or Nubians or Greeks or Romans or Arabs or French or Italians or Germans or British or Turkish or Ukrainians, Not Middle Easterners or Caucasians or Mediterraneans or Levants or Amazigh or Berbers or even North Africans. WE ARE EGYPTIANS, WE ARE VERY UNIQUE!

Yes, but as with all kayak turns, the real secret is to always anticipate the turn by initiating turning momentum with an outside forward sweep stroke & outside edge lean before hitting the current with the "deep diggity dig" on the inside edge. Watch elite slalom paddlers, this is how they put the icing on the cake of your turns. Doing so can turn a 17 foot sea kayak a full 180 on flat water with one diggity dig.

Dude, it's a bow draw in a sea kayak. They don't spin, they carve.Check out AQ flat water bow draw,it's the same stroke, blade movement,and edge.
@kenwebster5053
@kenwebster5053 3 ай бұрын
@@chuckster243 It's the same length as my sea kayak and having had slalom training & skills, I say it's still important to anticipate & setup the turn with edging and make your last power stroke a sweep, in order to initiate the turn momentum before you get to the target position for the bow draw (deep diggity dig). A 17 foot sea kayak can spin 180 if you have the skills. My Geoff Barker Sea Wasp does. It's just rather slow compared to a white water boat, but it will do it. You end up with the paddle vertically in the water in front of you & the kayak slowly spinning around the shaft same as with a slalom boat, just takes more time.

@kenwebster5053 Oh I agree with that 💯. I employed this stroke, but I didn't anticipate the power or force of it. Needless to say, I provided some live entertainment for the folks on the shoreline. I don't have a whitewater kayak, I have a stratos. If I would've hung on or anticipated appropriately, I think it would've made an awesome turn. Next time, out is round two, but moving a lot slower this time. I have a lot to learn, I don't think learning ever ends, that's the really cool part.

Good video . I kayak on lake Erie in Ohio. The kind of current and wave conditions are different for me. I hope to get to paddle on a tide race someday. I'm sure it's very different then what I am use to. I'm interested in taking classes, however, due to the ACA hate for Greenland paddles, I won't waste my time. I only paddle with Greenland paddles, I started off with a euro blade, but it now resides as a backup paddle. Why does the ACA classes not offer instruction with Greenland paddles? I kayak in pretty rough stuff, and would love instruction from someone who can instruct with Greenland paddles. I would also prefer private classes. I don't like big groups. I'm a solo kind of guy.

I have a 'cone' shaped dry bag that I store my clothes in that jams perfectly into the front end of my kayak. It works great since it is the same shape as the boat and one of the lighter dry bags. I really want to get another one but, I can't find one anywhere.
