Should compare to Monkeyman and Obrien, which is what I thought this was about originally. Love some Art Adams. Wonder if the cover was something he had just lying around?

Good point! It would be smart for Art to do that. Would be a good question.

I respectfully disagree! I picked this up and meet the creators at a comic con. Its been probably 12 years and I still think about the book. I loved it! Thx for covering it though. It needs more attention.

This is so cool , i always wanted to make a channel and act like irwin!!!!!! My favorite cartoon character of all time reviewing his comics???? Thank you very much for this idea !!!! I need more please...we need people to see more ambushbug!!!! Thank you ❤❤❤😂😂 Is that a real book???? Because the idea was so cool! Like putting every ambushbug comics in one place and sometimes some descriptions of the stories or jokes or powers or whatever that could be explained between stories!! I cant find it on Google but if it's real I need it for my ambush bug collection🥹

I’m an African-American born in 1954, catching the tail end of the Jim Crow era. To me it’s not complicated at all. Our family wasn’t even allowed to swim in a public swimming pool because America was racist, plain and simple. What’s worse is that even today, America can’t admit that It is racist. You can just see this guy struggling with it. But apparently people can be racist and create stunning art and breakthrough possibilities at the exact same time. I grew up loving, and was profoundly influenced by McKay’s art! Even though some of his characters vastly diminished my self esteem, and made me feel that perhaps white people saw me as less than human. But eventually I became an accomplished illustrator/animator within a racist industry that initially ostracized me. As Americans, we just need to stop making excuses, buck up and admit our faults, and do our very best to learn from past mistakes.

I got my FAC last week and I'm very excited (bought on Ebay). I've always dreamed of knowing the secrets of the great American illustrators of the 50s and 60s and now I'm taking the course adapted to digital support (tablet). Obviously the school no longer exists and so, there is no any assessment and correction of work, but it still is an excellent starting point for learning illustration.

Read Star Slammers back in the Day- the story, while not as developed as it could have been, was not, in any way, “hard to understand”. A Race of men who were bred as Warriors fight for their survival against a Genocidal Politician who wants them wiped out-their “Secret Weapon” being the Achievement of “the Silvermind” (a Telepathy shared by all Slammers that enabled their entire race to function as a single cohesive Force). I think I’d heard it was Simonson’s Thesis Project at Art School….

I adored Silvestri's UXM work. It was alive. His musculature was exaggerated yet grounded. It was exquisite work brought to life in a perfect union with Green's inks. Green danced around Silvestri's lines. And… it was my introduction to the X-Men with issue 225. In the late '80s, I went back to study Silvestri's first X work on The X-Men vs. the Avengers, inked by Rubinstein. I was blown away by how he took to the characters, or they to him. His figure work was arguably at its cleanest best. His Dazzler! The little kids running around. Wolverine opening a beer with a single claw. It was beautiful. Then I remember clearly that first issue with Jim Lee. It was good but felt stiff, an element of Lee's work that is always present no matter how dynamic his poses and line work. Lee was trying to emulate Silvestri. You could feel it controlling his hand and the way he drew faces. I was fascinated by comparing these very two issues you've presented. To quote Michael Scott, "Well, well, well. How the turntables…" Flash forward to Lee's run on X-Men, his meteoric rise to fame, and the creation of Image, and you have his style leading the way. Instead of him emulating Silvestri, Silvestri started drawing like Lee, the Image way. I've always felt his work suffered for it and pine for the breezy early drawings.
