@AntennaMan, does this mean that I can get rid of Hulu with live tv? I live in a metro but haven’t found an antenna that works. The only reason I have Hulu is so my elderly mother can watch local news & the price is right. Pretty pricey shows!

I forgot to mention it locked up on the first try. Resetting and unplugging did not solve it. Customer support was unable to help. I left it unplugged overnight and it worked fine after that.

I am interested should they add viewing from outside the home. I had a Slingbox for years and I am looking for a replacement. Its video worked perfectly and never buffered when watching from outside the home.

Last I head you couldn't watch live TV or recordings when your internet connection was down because it can't transmit your data to Tablo. I also remember hearing issues of the same thing happening when the Tablo servers were down and couldn't receive your personal data. Can you please test this? If this is true, to have availability to local weather / emergency updates when the internet is down will require you to still run a coax cable to at least one TV from the antenna in addition to the Tablo. Your personal data being mined by a major broadcaster is probably why the guide data is free for 4th Gen and not for 3rd Gen (which doesn't do the same data mining).

I bought one and returned it. Pros: 1. 4 tuners under $150 2. Free accurate guide. 3. All the connectivity options are fantastic. Cons: 1. 2 week guide seems accurate, but it takes much scrolling to determine if it plays the next week. Searching is best way. 2. No way program based on time, only the guide works. I watch movies and mini-series educational shows. I have to know the name of the show in advance to schedule by searching. With PBS recording by time works better than the slow to scroll guide. 3. The tuner only got one city reception better than the discontinued Channel Master. (They now sell the Tablo.) And that city never has more than 2 things on at once. Don't need 4 tuners. 4. Only channels available on the last scan are listed in the guide. I have 5 antennas. Possibly the old model is better. Moving through the guide is faster. And manual recordings can be setup by time. No idea if scanning would work better with 5 antennas on the old one.

I have an antenna on my camper van that has an amplifier inde hooked to 12 volts. No wifi in my van just an antenna for tv and a cell booster so I was going to purchase the Tablo but not now if if only works over WiFi.

I got the Tablo 3rd Gen HDMI 4-channel box in August 2022. Then, when Tablo offered the 4th Gen 2-channel box to existing subscribers at a discount in November 2023, I grabbed it, because we had just bought a new television and I didn't want to move the HDMI box. I should have waited a couple months for the 4-channel box. For the most part, the 4th Gen box works well, but I've had a few issues. When it is recording two shows, you cannot watch a third, of course, but sometimes you can't watch either of the two shows you're recording either or any previous recordings. And, 3 times over the past 8 months, the Tablo lost connection to our Wi-Fi. The app on the TV couldn't connect and the phone app wanted to set up a new box. The reset button on the Tablo didn't work, but after powering down the Tablo a few times, it reconnected. But, a majority of the time it's been good. Like you said, the reception is remarkable compared to the Gen 3 box. As much as I want to upgrade so I can drop the subscription for the HDMI box, I'm going to wait for Tablo to come out with a 4-channel ATSC 3.0 box before I replace the two boxes I have now.

It's important to note that the new Tablo doesn't work with the popular Tablo Ripper which, when used with MCEBuddy, allows the storage of recordings in a media center.

Does the channel guide list names of actors and program synopsis for OTA channels?

I'm currently using an earlier Tivo Roamio unit with lifetime subscription... 4 tuners and streaming capability, yet to be utilized... But the Tablo seems to outdo my unit... hmmm... But, that remote situation. I can't figure how that's to work, especially seeing your navigation abilities in this video... Interesting...

As Tablo fanboy for years, I was disappointed when they announced their new generation devices wouldn't support out-of-home streaming, plus I was concerned the streaming channels would junk up Tablo's clean interface. I actually binged your DVR reviews for alternatives. Your review, however, is making me reconsider! The video quality, fast loading, and (what looks like) the ability to remove any streaming channels from the guide that you don't really want, might be worth losing remote streaming.

Hey Tyler - New device looks great but a few questions: 1) Does it integrate with Plex DVR like the HDHomerun Connect does? 2) How is the interface for a direct connection (i.e. is it slow and sluggish like many smart apps or quick and responsive)? 3) How is the tuner itself? Does it pickup more than most integrated tuners?

that will hurt the sales to some customers like me I liked that feature of remote programing so say you forgot to record your favorite movie or show !

I tried it and returned it. I couldn't receive a few of the channels that my TiVo picked up or a couple apps that my TV had and a few things took longer to load than my TV or TiVo did. It's probably great if you don't already have something better to compare it to.

Got a last gen tablo, couldn't get it to set up and was just a useless brick. Just installed a Homeworx and normal antenna and said screw it to whole home dvr

I have the legacy 4-Tuner with a slot to put a Hard Disk inside. I heard that Tablo will release the new firmware with a 2-week TV guide to its legacy devices. So far no new firmware upgrade 😢 Any news about the promised upgrade?

I don't understand why the Tablo is not using the AV1 codec instead of old MPEG2.

This is very, very interesting to me. I do volunteer in a 55 And over community. Recently the contract with the cable company is no longer. They don't want to pay streaming services because channels that they like that I mostly over the air. Her Samsung TV provides free television using internet, however local channels can be somewhat of a problem and requires switching from TV to antenna which is not a good combination for elderly people. I feel this product can solve a lot of problems for people in this situation. I'm beginning to see that a cable company when annual contracts fall though with the community,they want to charge normal prices which they can't on a social security check every month. This needs to be tested on a much older people to see what they think. I forgot to mention most of the community has some kind of good to basic Internet. I can't thank you enough for sharing this.

I bought this device but it froze during setup. I didn't get any help from their 'tech support' so I returned it and am sticking with zapperbox.

I live in the Eugene, Oregon market. Can Tablo pick up K03IM-D, the low power station broadcasting 4k OTA with ATSC1.0 and specialized codecs that you recently did a video about?

We've been using the how about you 2-tuner version for about 9 months now. At first there were a lot of bugs we had to work out between the device, storage, our coax connection and our internet. We ended up going with a wired ethernet connection and it's been smooth sailing ever since. We use it almost everyday!

“Supposed to correct some of the flaws of the previous generation Tablo. Including better stability…” but it doesn’t. I am not sure if it is a fault of the Tablo itself or the Roku app but it always comes up with the QR code to setup the Tablo then I need to exit the app and go back in and wait forever for it to connect. Channel names are missing for half the channels. A lot of the DVD recordings fail. Channels which come in fine one day are non-existent the next day. For what it’s worth I’m in Phoenix and initial channel scan gets around 115 channels not including the garbage streaming channels they include. Almost all are green with the exception of the PBS stations. I’ve already contacted Tablo and exchange the unit once to no improvement. To make matters worse is I have all these Apple TV boxes I can’t use with the Tablo because they keep changing the release date of the app. It was supposed to be released last fall. I’m going to check out Homerun at this point.

No, the tuner in the Tablo is NOT as good as some TVs. I do not have very good reception in my area but my older Samsung TV seems to be able to tune in the channels ok. The Tablo however, often fails to record shows due to having a less sensitive tuner. Also the software has a number of bugs as also reported by some other reviewers and I have to periodically reset it by removing the power plug and re-inserting it after a few seconds. An other very disappointing thing is that early on they hinted they would create a Windows App like the older Tablos but they appear not to be interested to do so; therefore, you have to have a device like Roku or Google TV etc. before you can use it. I use it with a Google TV device. I don't actually recommend it I think there must be better devices out there that will also work with a PC not needing an additional device to make it work and hopefully with less bugs.

Scripps doesn’t want out of home streaming. Plex works better anyway.

"unable to connect to live tv" is a banner message you will see daily if you decide to give this a try. It "works" but it is so,so buggy.

Great review but prefer to wait for ATSC 3.0 and AppleTV support.

Purchased last week and like it so far! Did have some issues with Wi-Fi connection so used ethernet and it has been stable. Using it on DirecTV Osprey/Gemini box, Roku, Apple TV, Firestick and Android TV. Like AntennaMan said picture quality is excellent! on OLED A80CJ Sony 77 inch TV and other TV's and iPhones.

You should have mentioned the caveat that Tablo is not currently supporting ATSC 3.0, although I imagine they will eventually when the standards stop being a moving target. ATSC 3.0 is available in my area, but I don't pay any attention to it for now. I still have the older Tablo; I do not experience the picture problems you mention. My Wi-Fi is strong throughout the house.

I didn't see it mentioned in the video, does this new Tablo OTA DVR support ATSC 3.0 channels and recording of them?

Without out of home watching, this is pretty much useless for me.

Does this new one also give the disk or card a LInux-only format, or did they get smart and format as exFAT so we can see the stuff on Windows and Mac without special format readers?

It's dumb that this and a lot of others of these devices don't _also_ have the one local (HDMI) connection for the immediately near TV.
