Any idea where the lost Hobart Mikva eg; Ritual bath used to be? I believe it’s recorded in the records of the Hobart Synagogue.

Hey Angus and Doggo! I watched a lot of your videos and greatly enjoy them. I am actually in Tasmania now on holidays and have been in Hobart the past week and it’s been great seeing these storylines and discussion topics of yours in the flesh at their actual locations…. So thank you! 😁

The so called “Grosvenor Expressway” would have passed 58’ under the existing level of our property, Highbury, at 136 Davey St. it resulted in a massive devaluation of the property and this was reflected in the eventual sale price. The purpose was to divert traffic through the Gadsden’s factory in Mole St, under Davey st and connect with Grosvenor St. Gosh knows what was going to happen after that. The whole concept was a design disaster.

We heard the explosion at work in Campbell st. And not long after the sirens from the close by fire station went off and the entire fleet took off downtown.

A mate of mine started the fire that destroyed the Dorney home in 1978. He was back burning down in the valley, something he had done many times when a gust of wind took control and the fire exploded up the valley.

It's an ancient pile of shit. It certainly served its purpose a long time ago. Tasmania has grown, and this bridge no longer serves its purpose. Being nostalgic is wonderful, but not useful.

The piers of the bridge were quite visible in the 60’s when we lived at Triabunna. My only trip on Tassie trains was the annual boarding school excursion from Hobart to The Royal Hobart Show.

I worked at RDH as a Ward Aide on the Nursing staff from 1992 to 1994 (I'm now 50 years old). Great history and I loved working in New Norfolk at the time but as RDH downsized due to Community Integration I was transferred to the Department's Head Office (being the Department of Community and Health Services DCHS as it was then known as) at 34 Davey Street, 99 Bathurst Street, and 10 Murray Street the old State Office's building (that is no longer there). Thanks for sharing this history I didn't know half of it!.

Omg why is this country so not proud of its past and the great hard working people regardless of sex or colour! And to add The British 🇬🇧 all over the world made wherever they colonised better and very much prosperous without a doubt! Look where the Spanish or Portuguese colonised it’s a mess and dishonest! Let’s say you are always looking over your shoulder! Thank god the British colonised this country because it would have been a lot worse for all if not. Remember that!

Public pools, in particular all the WWII Memorial Baths weren't built to make money, they were were gifts from our forbearers for the benefit of the citizens. They should never be shut down due to usage/cost concerns, that's completely missing the point. All they are doing is diverting taxpayers money to some other bullsheet.

I recently found your channel and have enjoyed working through your laconic, poetic and insightful journeys into Tasmania's past. You should really look into Tartaria and the mudflood in Australia, an alternative view of our past. It requires an open mind but you have all the skills to peel back the (hidden) layers.

I talked about this crash and the other one in 1958 with my Auntie. Her school teacher from Sorell School lost his life in this accident. She said she was told it was a flock of sea gulls that caused it. The other crash she talked about isnt documented very much. It was a DC3 freighter (C47) coming into land and crashed into the water and the crew waited to be rescued by 2 guys from Sorell in a small boat. She named the guys but I cant remember the names. The rumour was that a load of white goods shifted while the landing was being prepared for. Another source told me that the concrete bridge at Midway Point (1958?) was held up from completion until the plane could be floated through the gaps in the old wooden bridge and then was dragged onto the shore near the Cambridge Airport and slowly stripped for parts.

I started work at the National Bank in Burnie. I was 15½. My first pay and another bank officer started a fund raiser... all asked to donate a sponge bag and some contents. With my very first pay... a few years esrlier, working after school at the Caltex Service Station, priority for me was to buy a comb. No wonder I sort of begrudgingly purchased the sponge bag with contents. 😂
